"Democracy depends on a free and independent press, which is why all tyrants try to squelch it. They use seven techniques that, worryingly, President-elect Donald Trump already employs. ... Historically, these seven techniques have been used by demagogues to erode the freedom and independence of the press. Even before he"s sworn in, Trump seems intent on doing exactly this."

1. Berate the media.
2. Blacklist critical media.
3. Turn the public against the media.
4. Condemn satirical or critical comments.
5. Threaten the media directly.
6. Limit media access.
7. Bypass the media and communicate with the public directly.

given their bias, spin and untruths I don't see a problem with this in general, the media is a bastardization of what it use to be, it's no longer news but entertainment. News use to be boring because it lacked the hype and over exaggeration of what people call news today. They did it to themselves and now are reaping what they have sewn. Maybe this will force them to just report the facts and move towards a more impartial stance, though i doubt it. Remember some believe the Enquirer is real news.

Well this is the man who hounded some journalist just because they said he had tiny hands...so when it comes to the press, I imagine he'll be pretty authoritarian.
Commentator on a picture with David Cameron and a Cat: 'Amazing what you can achieve with photoshop these days. I'm sure that used to be a pig.'

Commentator on Hillary Clinton: 'If Clinton is now what passes for progressive, maybe this country deserves Trump.'

Commentator on British parliament: 'All that talent in one place, where is Ebola when you need it?'

John Kerry on words: 'These aren't just words, folks.'

All tyrants have drank water. Coincidence? I think not.
"If a man does not put himself in the attitude of a sinner, his prayer will not be heard before God." A brother asked him, "what is a sinful soul?" And St. Abba Moses replied, "Everyone who bears his own sins, and does not consider those of his companion."

We don't actually have a free press now. If you write something about a liberal myth that shows people it can't be true, the editor won't let it be printed.

Why do you care that the National Enquirer is getting squelched? There will be other forms of entertainment.

The news is important. If Trump can attack the media and convince everyone that only himself, Fox News and Breitbart are the only sources to be trusted and everything else is"luggenpressa" then this country is in much danger.

lol you do realize Fox News exists right? There is actually plenty of right wing media, Breitbart, the National Review etc. The narrative of the "lame stream media" is a right wing joke designed to make people, especially elderly fox news viewers, think they are dependent on them as the only source of truth despite Fox News being a part of the MSM.

Exactly. If you can't tell the difference between fake and real news you resign yourself to ignorance and what ever demagogue you believe in the most for your source of truthiness.
