A study just showed that Atheists are not as happy as Christians. They are
more depressed, more stressed, and very discouraged about life. Christians
seem to be more upbeat, energetic, and happy. Yes, I would say that this is
true. Christians are much more happy about life in general. I guess it is because they have a purpose in this life, and are living it with meaning as we speak. Atheists do
otherwise. Anyway. What do you think ?

Ann. You are a smart person, I assume. Just Google it. You do know how to
use the internet dont you. And by the way, good to see you here again, too.

Lol interpersonal comparisons of happiness.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

Ha, ha, ha.

Give me the title of the study or researchers and I can look it up on the psychological database that I have full access to as a psych major at my university. If you can't give me one of those two simple things, then you are lying.

If there was such a "study" you would have linked to it. Most atheists I know of admit to being happy. Probably the only unhappy atheist I know of is C_N.

While it could be true that, as a whole, atheists are not as happy a Christians, I think that what you are drawing from it is probably not true. I could envision a number of factors that could contribute to 'unhappiness', one being isolation. The United States is predominantly Christian and those Christians aren't exactly embracing of those that *aren't* Christian (rather, I should say that some are not). So an atheist living in those conditions could have more stress.

As to meaning - maybe you mean that Christians believe their life has purpose. That could be true, but as to what that specific purpose is, I doubt it.

Believers. Christians. The bottom line is this. Without God, you cannot be
completely and utterly happy. You are void of something. That is the bottom
line. And many of you know how that feels. No wonder why so many of you
are lost and misguided.

Don't say YOU. You may feel void, because you are intellectually inferior and need something to fill those gaps in your knowledge, but don't pawn that $hit off anyone else. I assure you, I am MUCH happier without the belief in a god. Also, you have absolutely no place calling anyone over the age of 6 lost or misguided. My 9 year old cousin has more brain power than you, sir, so please refrain from speaking.

What study is this?

Christians seem to be more upbeat, energetic, and happy. Yes, I would say that this i true. Christians are much more happy about life in general. I guess it is because they have a purpose in this life, and are living it with meaning as we speak. Atheists do otherwise. Anyway. What do you think ?

I personally find my atheism depressing, other atheists who perhaps have more going for them, or are stronger psychologically do not. From my experience of Christians on the internet, it would seem that Christians are generally the less happy group.

I personally believe that most people who profess to Christian belief are lying, they are simply expressing a vague cultural and moral identity and are trying to pretend that they are not scared of death.
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

interrogator: I don't think Christians are particularly happier. I would submit to you that many atheists are very happy with their lives. Jesus Christ isn't about bringing us great and wonderful lives where we can dance in the gleaning sunshine on church lawns singing and laughing without a care in the world.

For a Christian, life is a battle, where we fight against sin daily. I would say that the Christians' best life now is not now but after death. The atheists can have their best life now if they wish. This is not to say that a Christians life is full of misery and grey skies and non-enjoyable things. For example, I like long walks, exploring and the general out doors. And I find great enjoyment out of those things.

I think you need to actually READ what you are talking about. The study isn't about whether atheists are unhappy - its about the differences in how believers or nonbelievers deal with socioeconomic stress.

If a study turned up that showed that Christians were more right than Atheists, I will start caring.

Yeah so I think this whole thread proved that the study you supposedly found is wrong. Sine all you have to do to understand something is google it, why don't you google evolution and try to understand it if you can.

Even so, I think I would be happier as a christian on believer of some sort. Not because I am missing something, but because I would be certain that there is more to life, that I will be happy when I die, that there is justice in the end. But, I won't lie to myself to make myself feel better. I think my unhappiness is not due to my atheism but my dysthymic disorder.
