What exactly are you asking? I can interpret this in two different ways.

Are women defined as that? Meant to be treated like that? Etc. Which other way did you interpret it in?

I doubt Islamic texts directly state that. The Qur'an does not. But we interpret the good treatment of women as telling us that they are like jewels. Not as property, since Islam in no way treats women as property, but because they have a big value, beauty, etc.

This was exactly what I was trying to ask him about. Thanks for clarifying.

Don't men have any big value?

Response: You would have to explain what is meant by jewels. For jewels are stones, so by definition, women are not jewels in islam, but human beings. Unless jewels is being referred to as something else.

This could either mean that they are seen as valuable property or are considered precious and worthy of respect. The OP really needs to clarify this, but I think Mirza did a fantastic job discussing this.

They do. Islam deems men and women equal in terms of value. However, they are different by nature. Women are deemed more beautiful, especially because they are honored very much as mothers. To call them 'jewels' in this context would mean they should be more protected by external forces, hereby their guardians (male relatives). This does not mean they are valued more than men. Men are considered the shepherds of the sheep flock, i.e., their families. In that case, it is not proper to interpret men as being like jewels. They are more like rods of iron; used to fight battles and protect people, while women are more like jewels: equal value, but different.
