As we became consciously aware of ourselves and are surroundings, life. We also became aware of death, and how fragile life can be. So in order for our brains to develop as consciously aware, it also developed an area in the frontal lobes that gives everyone born (unless they have a brain defect) a sense of a spirit/soul, god, part of whole, an afterlife, a continuation somehow....and so on. This area in the brain responsible for these beliefs is key to our survival as a species. We probably wouldn't have made it without it. It helps to remove the fear of death so that we are able to take risk without to much of a fear of dying. This area in the brain also helps us to not be over stricken with grief from the loss of a loved one, to the point of being unable to function. So all people have these beliefs for the very same reason "all cats meow", our brain developed it that way. This is why every culture has words for a soul, god, and so forth. Having the beliefs is perfectly normal, in fact it's abnormal not to have them. A disbelief is something that one must learn.

Excellent thread. People forget, in their obsessive infatuation with intuition, that naturally inklings are the product of natural selection. And even if somethings appear aesthetically convincing or true at first glance, there's a good is it outright false (freewill, Cartesian sense of consciousness) or incomplete (logic).

That second link you post is a little misleading. Meditation is not religion nor does it have to be tied to a religion. The memory benefit the individual got from doing a type of mantra meditation could be gained from any mantra.

Meditation is a practice of trying to control the many random thoughts that pops into our brains at any given moment. Once a person has a better grasp of controlling that they can then focus better on a single thought, which could be a prayer or could be a thought on how I'm going to get through thanksgiving dinner with uncle marty this year.

No, I think it is a guys tally whacker that is connected. How else did God get all the men of Genesis to do the little servant girls when their wives ended up barren?

What women? How do you know the age of Hagar - Servant/Slave to Sari that she let Abraham sleep with?

Also, why couldn't the connection be in the genitals. After all, did not Abraham give all his concubines to Issaic upon his death? The bible does not mention what Issaic did with them, but I imagine it was not playing patty cakes?

Then you have Jacob, who hooks up with Bilhah, who is the servant girl of his wife Rachel who is barren because of God. I won't even mention that this is all at the same time he is married to and had kids with Rachel's sister Leah. Of course Leah had a servant that Jacob hooked up with too, Zilpah, and Leah was not even barren.

I'm just saying let's not rush to judgement on where the "connection" resides in the human body and be open as to where it may be.

Exzactly how do...dont connect God and His prophets to your preverse thoughts.

I imagine it was not playing patty cakes?
Exzactly your imagination

False read again.

From one of the many bibles, although everyone I have seen says this:

"Jacob had twelve sons:

23 The sons of Leah:

Reuben the firstborn of Jacob,

Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar and Zebulun.

24 The sons of Rachel:

Joseph and Benjamin.

25 The sons of Rachel's servant Bilhah:

Dan and Naphtali.

26 The sons of Leah's servant Zilpah:

Gad and Asher."

My work is done here.

Sorry for hijacking this thread. I do believe that what the original post demonstrated is that the human mind is a crazy complex thing. Even something like personality that we tend to think as part of ourselves is just a function of the brain. There are many documented cases where a person's personality is completely different after brain trauma to the area that stores many of our personality traits. It is amazing.
