So I hear giving birth evolves quite alot of pain and suffering. So for alot of human history women had to put up with this. But then pain relief/anesthesia came along, and of course the thought was to help relieve woman of their suffering in this area. What do ya know empathy shows its face eh ?

But this was objected to by some religious people, why ? cause they knew that God wanted women to suffer in this way, why ? cause they read in Genesis that God cursed women in child birth and to give them that pain relief was to subvert the will of the almighty, all wise, just, holy God.

And this is the problem we still have today, that a moral argument can be ended with this is what God wants end of argument, well no actually, not end of f*cking argument.

Your welcome.

Why is reducing the suffering of conscious creatures moral in your opinion?

To take a page out of Sam Harris book here, its axiomatic, yes you can challenge that and demand the justification and even argue its negation.

As he points out, christianity/islam/maybe some other religions aren't offering an alternative axiom, why not go to hell ? well, its hot, and your in torment, there's alot of pain and suffering etc.

The Fool: Thats like water and Oil. One is of Faith, the other one is of reason.
"The bud disappears when the blossom breaks through, and we might say that the former is refuted by the latter; in the same way when the fruit comes, the blossom may be explained to be a false form of the plant's existence, for the fruit appears as its true nature in place of the blossom. These stages are not merely differentiated; they supplant one another as being incompatible with one another." G. W. F. HEGEL
