In my opinion no person can properly be persuaded to change their beliefs, or if they do then they must not have had a strong faith in the first place. What do others think of this?

Well there are people who were priests, Rabbis , preaching their own religion and did revert, eventually to Islam, and some say they were actually believing their faith, but did research, it took some years, some decades.Well I don't thin I need to provide evidence for you could find plenty online. But this is a counter example and should be enough to break your statementThere is hope...

I doubt instant conversion is likely with those who hold strong beliefs; they're too entrenched. But at the same time, I do think that the ideas of a debate can percolate through, and can eventually cause a shift.

Why would you think that? Would it be improper for someone to give you significant information?

This does not follow. Why can't you have a strong faith, but then be persuaded to the opposite direction?
