I don't know why Scientology is so greatly criticized. As far as I can understand, the religion is centered around beliefs that man is a spirit, not a mammal. I also understand it was founded recently, in the 1900's, and by a writer who did not have much significance in the world compared to Jesus or Moses or Muhammad or Siddhartha, the Buddha. . However, I just don't get why many people often criticize and say Scientology is "weird" or "wacko" or whatever. What's the big deal? Doesn't every religion have its own flaws? I'm just curious on what people have to say about this particular religion. Thanks!

There are several levels on which to criticize it, all of which have a lot information-related that you can find online and in multiple court records.

1. Credibility of text and leadership

L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer who claims the best way to make money was not to write fiction but to create a religion. The document upon which they have founded their cosmology was written by L. Ron Hubbard while on an international cruise boat having taken amphetamines and downers.

This cosmology asserts the following:

I HIGHLY suggest watching before making any response to this claim.

The text itself was introduced to the legal system and can be seen online. I was written a sheet of paper in what appears to be colored pen or crayon.

2. Involvement in criminal activities

Scientology is responsible not only for domestic espionage against the US government but has a business doctrine called "fair game" which advocates physical harassment and even violene towards anyone who criticizes scientology.

It is more accurately classified as a cult or business than a religion.

3. Dianetics/Scientology is unhealthy and harmful to the point of LITERAL negigent homicide.

The church was indicted for negligent homicide after providing "treatment" for one of its members.

Scientologists consider psychologists/psychiatrists to be evil and refuse to let their members see mental health professionals, including schizophrenics.

Scientologists advocate complete isolation of the individual from friends, family, social networks along with completely abandoning any doubts of scientology.

Scientologists charge money to the point of bankrupting many families whose members were gullible enough to fall into their system of BUYING spiritual advancement.

The highest level of buyable spiritual enhancement, according to Scientologists, involved telekineses and mind reading.

L-Ron: "Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wanted to make a million dollars, the best way to do it would be start his own religion."

Also there's the "Fair Game" concept:

I'm fine with religions that have an insane message. But this is a cult/business that harms people in very direct ways.

Oh last thing: they use manipulation and lies to convert children.

Take the following website and youth group:

http://www.youthforhumanrights.org...

I dare you to find any sign that that organization is funded by and controlled by Scientologists. I went to one of their youth meetings, and most of the youths were wearing scientology necklaces. The meeting itself was funded by a local scientology group.

This is one example, but they have also set up academic scholarships and programs which are used to indirectly indoctrinate people into scientology.
