Muslim women are not supposed to fast or pray their five daily prayers while masturbating. I know quite a few in my family. they don't consider themselves unclean (in fact, some like the fact that they don't have to fast if they are menstruating). But I get the feeling that the reason they are not allowed to pray is because Muhammad probably thought they were unclean while on their periods. I'm sure there are muslim women here who can probably answer this better.

Menstruation invalidates ablution, prayer, makes intercourse unlawful and fasting invalid.

But a woman can do the rest of her activities, including praying God (the general prayer that doesn't require ablution). she can touch things cook things ect.

So it depends what you mean by unclean ?

How so? "Bleeding from any of the natural orifices (anus, urethra or vagina) definitely breaks one's wudu'. This is the general consensus among the scholars. "

Bluproof , this is a religion, basically if you go to the washroom for natural need your ablution expires, and you need to clean yourself and make a new ablution if you want to pray, it doesn't mean your body is dirty, but you've been in a state of impurity. for menses, as long as the bleeding is there, the woman is in a state of impurity and she cannot perform the prayer that requires ablution.

Also for intercourse both the man and his wife need to have a shower before being able to pray the compulsory prayer (of course if there is no water there is an alternative).

So it's not really being unclean, it's being impure for the prayer.

I don't think it's accurate to use the term "unclean", perhaps a better term would be ritually impure. The practical ramifications during this period (pardon the pun) are:
1) There are many religious activities that they do not perform
2) Sexual intercourse is prohibited.

I love the idea that god made women 'unclean' for 15% of every month, presumably out of spite. Why not just... not do that? Biologically speaking, there is no really requirement for women to menstruate in such a way, as there are many animals that do not.

But I've been having recurring giggling fits since finding out that people have to go for a wash and a pray before sex. "Bring us this day our daily head..."

This whole thing is completely insane.

So it's not really being unclean, it's being impure for the prayer.
The first 4 words after my name explain this perfectly well.

But I will expand for those who don't get it.

For 5 days or so every month, because of the way Allah made them women are not capable of being worthy of Allah's munificence. They are not worthy of praying to ALLAH. They are not capable of washing there hands and face, because that is how Allah made them and they are after all second to men. Apparently men can wudu with dirt and it makes them clean enough for Allah, but no amount of washing is enough for a woman according to ALLAH.

Good god you got there. LOL.

You can still pray. Just not the kind where wudu is required. You can still do wudu and you can still wash your hands and face and all your other body parts. Women can do wudu with other materials just as men can if water is not available. Plus, men and women are considered equal.
But during your period, no amount of wudu works to make a woman clean. The man beside her can rub his hands and face with dirt and he is clean.................

Here's a heads up

THAT AIN'T EQUAL.

Don't know either to cry on your comparison or to get laugh.

That ain't equal really, you are comparing two types of objective property that never exists in one type of the entity. No comparison at all.

Or did you ever get menses? :o

Proof positive that a capacity for thought is completely unnecessary in the use of a computer.

Well done you.

When did I say the woman is unclean? Whoever claims women are unclean when they are on their period is pretty ignorant.

"The reason why Islam prohibited women from praying and fasting during their menstruation is for their own good. Islam gives women a break every month because of the tremendous hardship they endure due to the changes in their hormones, but no Muslim scholar said that they are unclean."
