I am curious how those Christians who believe in equality for women, particularly Christian women themselves, reconcile with the blatant sexism of the bible.

There are doubtless many examples of sexism in the Old Testament, like where it states that if a man is caught raping a woman, he must buy her as his wife for 50 shekels of silver. However, considering how popular it seems to be amongst today's Christians to discount everything in the Old Testament, I will instead provide examples from the New Testament:

-

1 Timothy 2:11-15
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.

Ephesians 5:22-24
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

1 Corinthians 14:34-35
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

-

Again, looking particularly for responses from Christians who do not adhere to the above.

That's Pauline Christianity. Our Gnostic Christian tradition never held the Bible as spiritual authority or worshiped the man-made Bible god, YHWH. Paul's ideas ruined Christianity as far as we Gnostics are concerned because most Christians follow Paul's doctrines instead of following Jesus' teachings. We Gnostic revered the Divine Feminine as Sophia, the Highest Spirit of God human beings can access. Pauline Christians followed the Abrahamic patriarchal bias against women and that's why women only now 2000 years later are finally returning to equality in social power they held in ancient times when the Divine Feminine was still part of the Godhead.

And what exactly are the origins of this "Sophia", and by what criteria do you accept that source and not Paul?
