Greek translation of the Paleo-Hebrew word for the shape of Earth is a "rim" that encloses something that is inside.

Esaias 40: 22 It is he that comprehends the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants in it are as grasshoppers; he that set up the heaven as a chamber, and stretched it out as a tent to dwell in.

Esaias 40: 22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth,

What gets me is; The early explorers (Christopher Columbus etc) thought the world was flat hundreds of years after Esaias 40 circle of the earth
AND... (big and)
The book of Job the oldest book of the bible talks of "Ice Bergs" up north,,, How would they know about the world so far away!?

Bible - ...the four corners of the Earth....

atheist - ...har, har, God didn't know the Earth was round. Hahahahahaha!

Bible - ....the circle of the Earth......

atheist - .....har, har, God didn't know the Earth was not a tent. Hahahahahaha!

We do live "inside" the Earth. This is one of the reasons why meteors and harmful radiation don't kill us. The atoms above us are thick (by miles) but invisible.

We still use these phrases today "four corners of the earth", "the sun rise" "sun set", etc. If 2000 years from now someone was laughing at you for these sayings, you would think the joke is on them because they are too silly to even understand you were speaking figuratively.

The Hebrew word translated as "circle" is ח֣וּג which also translates as horizon
http://translate.google.com...

The verbal form of the word basically means "to scribe a circle"
This is why the old king james version says:

"He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end."

The poorly translated versions say:

"He has inscribed a circle on the face of the waters at the boundary between light and darkness."

And the modern versions with proper contextual understanding of Hebrew translate it:

"He marks the horizon on the surface of the water at the boundary where light meets dark. "

Thanks Andy. The militant atheist doesn't think the Bible can be figurative. The joke is still on them though.
