Does One Need A Religion To Believe In God ?

And I think that early men would agree. Because anthropoligists tell us that men first live as hunter-gatherers and didn't have religiins till farming came about and shamans with them. If religion came about then there must have been factors whuch helped it and it follows that a belief in God preceded religion. We also know that many religions eg ancestral/idol worship, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism etc preceded the arrival of Christianity. And Eastern religions such as Buddhism and Taoism have interesting insights as to God in relation to Nature. These Eastern religions didn't have sacred books and rituals until later on. Prior to that they were best described as philosophies. If I can retain a simple belief in God, a hope (or not) for an afterlife and living in accordance with their conscience, of what need is a religion ? Probably none.
