How much should religion be allowed to affect society? If a Mosque wants to sing the call to prayer at bed-time is that alright if the neighbourhood is Muslim? Should religion be a major part of public life?

I think religion should be allowed up to affect society up not but not including the point that it begins to interfere with the rights of others. For example, a religion that believes you have to sacrifice your oldest child to appease God should be allowed up to, but not including sacrificing your oldest child because that interferes with the right of the child to live. Or, if a religion includes the belief that you have to use force to stop other people from practicing their religion by, say, burning their houses of worship, then that religion should be allowed up to, but not including the point of using force to stop other people from practicing their religion since that would interfere with the right of other people to practice their religion.

That depends on the society and/or the people in charge of it. Some societies have no problems with public expressions of religion. Some do (or did).

I believe that people have the right not express their religion as they please in societies as long as it doesn't go as far as hurting other people's feelings. If one does not want to believe in the religion being expressed, it's their choice, and should not be forced to. This is only my view though. By the way I am Catholic, and many people have attempted to convert me to Atheism, but I have not given in. People can believe in what they want, and they should not be forced in public to believe in what is being expressed. I've been a Catholic my whole life, and plan to stay that way.
