Can you explain what you consider this passage means?

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Physical things were formless and empty meaning they had not been formed. They had no substance.
The phrase "darkness upon the face of the deep" basically conveys the idea that everything which would eventually exist was veiled in "darkness," It was invisible, incognisable.

Most people are also aware that "Darkness" and "ignorance" are synonyms spiritually.
The Earth can also be a synonym for people. We are the Earth.

Darkness upon the face of the deep also conveys the idea of not knowing and not seeing that which will exist in the future. Not knowing leaves us in darkness or ignorance about those things.

I do not agree with all that they have written but I do think it is an interesting way to look at it. They claim the Earth BECAME formless and void rather than originally being formless and void.
