Cognitive dissonance is a very useful tool in human development, religions and god beliefs have very successfully repressed this very useful tool.
They couldn't exist without that repression.
An example: Mankind needs salvation, if salvation is not attained then those not saved will suffer eternal torture in hell. So says the christian god at least.
But the christian god doesn't predestine anyone to hell.
Those claims are absolutely irrefutably contradictory. And yet christians can believe both.
Cognitive dissonance makes you question these conflicting statements and know that they can't both be true.
If the first statement is true then god predestines all to hell.
If the second statement is true then there is no need of salvation.
Have at it.
