Gen. 1:3 "God said, 'Let there [haya] be light,' and there was light"

The light here "owr" is different from the light mentioned in Gen. 1:14

"14 And God said, Let there be lights [ma'owr] in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:"

Just some insight into this passage. Some interpret the light in the 1st day to be the Messiah (Jesus) himself which illuminated the universe. It is God which ultimately sustains the universe. In the beginning, there is light but the light has yet to be revealed before the creation. A period of darkness follows and finally the light shines forth. This is how is now towards the end of this creation into the new age.

The light of God is His invisible thoughts where we all exist. The visible Earthly Kingdom is only an illusion that He makes us believe as our reality. In order to give us a visible kingdom to experience life in, there has to be contrasts ( light and dark ) to form illusions.
