When educating our children about pedophiles and child molesters is it wrong to include all priests is this warning, as it is impossible to tell the good from the bad. A parent must error on the side of caution. The collar they wear is now a sign of something kids should fear, after all, they don"t confess, nor do they carry a sign, but they do wear the collar.

That"s like saying anyone that looks like you should be considered to be one also. It"s quite obvious that in most cases that such would try to be where they would be entrusted by guardians with their children. The collar, the coach, the summer camp consoler, the parent, the uncle, could be anywhere and any creed or walk of life. You must do diligence to get your child to understand what could happen. You do so when it comes to crossing the street which could be any car, or anything else that might harm them, it might be wise to do the same with this.

Children need to be taught where the boundaries are. When anyone, no matter who they are, does something wrong to them that they should speak up. Children are smart enough to understand this concept.

As for the stigma of the Catholic priests, that is something that is obviously an issue. However warnings given to children about sexual predators is not the cause for that growing stigma. Some of them did very bad things and it's not difficult to have such guilt by association when priests should be men of God that can be trusted for their commitment alone. It kind of makes anyone wonder if their vows mean anything at all to them. Sad really for the good priests.

Warning your children doesn't make them fear priests anymore than anyone else, like a teacher, friend, or relative.

Sounds more like prejudice being taught than caution. I guess some parents are like that.
