THE "DOG FIGHT" WITHIN: Romans 7, the "Do, Do" chapter. Where Paul talks about dealing with the flesh, the mind, emotions and will. Man is a 3 part being...BODY-SOUL-SPIRIT. But because of "SIN" man is born "spiritually dead" and is why Jesus told Nicodemus, John 3:3 "You Must Be Born Again Of The Spirit, In Order To See God"...Once a person has been "Born Again" of the holy spirit, and now not only has a relationship with God they didn"t have before they now have a "NEW LIFE" and are a "New Creature" 2 Cor 5:17, that doesn't mean we become sinless, for while our SPIRIT has been redeemed our BODY and SOUL have not, when we get to heaven they will be as well. Like I"ve mentioned before, by using the scale (Satan--0"""".100--God) that I talk about how, ones walk and closeness to God and their relationship with Him will determine the "outcome" of "the fight within"...Which "DOG" will win?

CONSIDER THIS INDIAN TALE..."An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is going on inside me," he said to the boy. "It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil " he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. " He continued, "The other is good " he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you " and inside every other person, too."The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed the most."

We all have our "struggles," our "weaknesses" our "shortcomings" our "sins". And like everything in life, there is a "positive" to every "negative" and visa versa, it is WHAT WE DO WITH the negatives that matters, that will determine the outcome. I will do my best to try and explain how our FLESH, and our SOUL, wants to take over the SPIRIT. Or do I as a believer desire (key word here) the SPIRIT IN ME, to WIN? This can be accomplished or not, by the one we "FEED THE MOST".

THE MIND: I want to start here, and then move to EMOTIONS, than WILL, all of which make up the SOUL, then proceed to the FLESH and finally SPIRIT. I find it very interesting how many people, even Christian say, that what we put in our minds doesn"t have an effect on our emotions, our choices our will, and for the believer even their spirit. This comes up quiet often in regards to KID VIOLENCE and can outside forces such as music, tv shows, movies and video games influence them? I say yes, "Garbage In Garbage Out""I personally know how desensitization works, because that is the "TOOL" I use when working with problem horses to have them overcome their fears. Remember ever good has a negative, even desensitization. So to say on one hand that desensitization only works when it comes to "COMMERCIALS and ADVERTISING" and working with changing an animals or persons behavior for GOOD"yet it does not when it comes to our kid and their BAD behavior, is to me a contradiction, don"t you agree? Reminds me of a CHILDREN'S CHRISTIAN SONG"."Be Carefully Little Eyes What You See, Be Careful Little Ears What You Hear"".(will deal with "Be Careful Little Hands What You Touch") again "Garbage In Garbage Out""And the opposite is TRUE, the bible says so. Psalms 119:11, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

Here are just a few other bible verses saying that the mind is the "gateway" to the soul, to the flesh, and the spirit, good or bad.

EPH 4:22 " You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."Romans, 12 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God"s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God"this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God"s will is"his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Phil 4:8, "Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." Prov, "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life."HERE IS A MUCH LARGER LIST. http://www.openbible.info...

I added both the Prov 27:19 "As in water, face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man." and Prov, 4:23 one because to me the HEART (desires) and MIND (thoughts regarding my hearts desires) often times work together. And this may be why Jesus was the first to deal with THE HEART. I can"t help but think of this verse regarding this issue. Prov. 23:7, "For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.""Jesus had a way of separating ones MOTIVES from their heart. This may be why He was often mad at the Pharisees and called them "HYPOCRITES" and "VIPERS"

I LOVE ROMANS"Pastor Whitaker took like 4 years to go through the book, dissecting it verse by verse (inductive) to me all we need to know is in the book of Romans. Chapter 6 and 7 will be attached in comments.

One can see through common sense and the verses listed that SIN starts in our MIND, via the five senses"HEARING"VISION"TOUCH"TASTE"and yes, even SMELL (Food gluttony) This all activates the sensors in our brain into decision making mode and actions, good or bad. And depending on one"s choices, will determine if one makes the right or wrong choice. This all deals with the matter of the WILL, so EMOTIONS are next.

EMOTIONS Definition: 1. A mental state that arises spontaneously rather than through conscious effort and is often accompanied by physiological changes; a feeling: the emotions of joy, sorrow, reverence, hate, and love. 2. A state of mental agitation or disturbance: spoke unsteadily in a voice that betrayed his emotion. 3. The part of the consciousness that involves feeling; sensibility: "The very essence of literature is the war between emotion and intellect" (Isaac Bashevis Singer).
Our emotions are often "TRIGGERED" by our 5 senses, again GOOD or BAD. The mind sets into motion the desires of our heart and if we FEED it (remember Indian story?) with mostly NEGATIVITY, or if to no fault of our own, we are exposed to such, then these are the actions and feelings that will naturally come out. The only way to counter bad thoughts is to FEED the mind with more wholesome things and then good things will come out. Sounds like basic science to me.

FLESH: Many people have this wrong idea about the flesh. You have two extremes, "If It Feels Good Do It" (U will end up hurting you and those around you) or "Everything Pleasurable Is sin" (become very judgmental of those around you, and yourself"Read Romans 14). I thank God I"m a balanced person, so on many things I believe as long as I am NOT HURTING anyone in any way, I am taking care of my responsibilities, I am a servant and ambassador of Christ, I do things in MODERATION, therefore I am not abusing my body or my mind as well. Yours and my relationship with God will determine what we allow our "FLESH" to do, either in word or deed, good or bad.

I learned over the years that God"s "LAW"S, His "RULES" were for our good, not to harm us, they are for our best.

SEX: In a committed, bonded (Hate to say marriage for marriage is a joke in our country, since there doesn"t have to be any grounds for divorce"doubt I"d do it again) relationship is good, it has NO RESTRICTIONS as long as both agree, read "Song Of Solomon". But, to go to the extreme and treat your body t

But, to go to the extreme and treat your body the "TEMPLE OF GOD" (If you are a believer) like disposable garbage, is definitely not in ones best interest. And that goes for ALL PLEASURES of the flesh. If one eats too much they will become UNHEALTHY and can lack productivity and even die before their time. Drugs and Alcohol, while in moderation, can be safe and fine, done to extreme, will also have the same effect as food and bad drinks (too much soda, coffee etc) , not only on ones health, but all relationships as well. Since it is our FLESH that often gets us in trouble, either by word or deed, and it is our MIND, EMOTIONS and WILL that activate the FLESH, what did Paul say, about how we are to overcome the flesh.

BIBLE VERSES ABOUT THE FLESH http://www.openbible.info...

BY THE SPIRIT: "Gal 5:16 "Life by the Spirit
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

THROUGH PRAYER AND STUDYING THE BIBLE: Without going into more of the same bible verses, the "GOOD" thoughts (FOOD) such as God"s word and through our communication with Him on a daily bases, all helps keep The Garbage Of The World Out" which in turn helps us make better choices, even if one doesn"t know God personally, they can still make "GOOD" choices, because God put into every man a CONSCIENCE to know right for wrong and good from evil"Romans 1.

Or, as long as they both don't resemble some narrow-minded, bigoted ideal spawned from ancient myth and superstition.

So, you've been divorced? Isn't that an abomination before your God?

Drugs and Alcohol, while in moderation, can be safe and fine...

Ah, so you're an advocate for drugs and alcohol? And, you are also under the delusion that they are safe and fine?

For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

Funny how you quote that, but don't even abide by it yourself. Stunning hypocrisy.

Wow, your ignorance is overwhelming.

My Christian ex left (he sinned not me) 2 long term (20 and 17 no cheating) marriages unbiblically, all because HE DIDN'T want to work on them and is on his 3rd ...so I am FREE to remarry. I have only been married once...so no contradictions...nice try though

The bible says, NOT TO BE DRUNK, so drinking, but not to excess is fine...remember Jesus turned water into wine...again nice try

NO HYPOCRISY..I NEVER CONTRADICT MYSELF...GOOD LUCK TRYING TO FIND WHERE I DO...LOL

Why do you see the Bible as any kind of authority on anything?

CONSIDER THIS

Question: "Is the Bible truly God's Word?"

Answer: Our answer to this question will not only determine how we view the Bible and its importance to our lives, but also it will ultimately have an eternal impact on us. If the Bible is truly God"s Word, then we should cherish it, study it, obey it, and fully trust it. If the Bible is the Word of God, then to dismiss it is to dismiss God Himself.

The fact that God gave us the Bible is an evidence and illustration of His love for us. The term "revelation" simply means that God communicated to mankind what He is like and how we can have a right relationship with Him. These are things that we could not have known had God not divinely revealed them to us in the Bible. Although God"s revelation of Himself in the Bible was given progressively over approximately 1500 years, it has always contained everything man needs to know about God in order to have a right relationship with Him. If the Bible is truly the Word of God, then it is the final authority for all matters of faith, religious practice, and morals.

The question we must ask ourselves is how can we know that the Bible is the Word of God and not just a good book? What is unique about the Bible that sets it apart from all other religious books ever written? Is there any evidence that the Bible is truly God"s Word? These types of questions must be seriously examined if we are to determine the validity of the Bible"s claim to be the very Word of God, divinely inspired, and totally sufficient for all matters of faith and practice. There can be no doubt that the Bible does claim to be the very Word of God. This is clearly seen in Paul"s commendation to Timothy: "" from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:15-17).

There are both internal and external evidences that the Bible is truly God"s Word. The internal evidences are those things within the Bible that testify of its divine origin. One of the first internal evidences that the Bible is truly God"s Word is seen in its unity. Even though it is really sixty-six individual books, written on three continents, in three different languages, over a period of approximately 1500 years, by more than 40 authors who came from many walks of life, the Bible remains one unified book from beginning to end without contradiction. This unity is unique from all other books and is evidence of the divine origin of the words which God moved men to record.

Another of the internal evidences that indicates the Bible is truly God"s Word is the prophecies contained within its pages. The Bible contains hundreds of detailed prophecies relating to the future of individual nations including Israel, certain cities, and mankind. Other prophecies concern the coming of One who would be the Messiah, the Savior of all who would believe in Him. Unlike the prophecies found in other religious books or those by men such as Nostradamus, biblical prophecies are extremely detailed. There are over three hundred prophecies concerning Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. Not only was it foretold where He would be born and His lineage, but also how He would die and that He would rise again. There simply is no logical way to explain the fulfilled prophecies in the Bible other than by divine origin. There is no other religious book with the extent or type of predictive prophecy that the Bible contains.

A third internal evidence of the divine origin of the Bible is its unique authority and power. While this evidence is more subjective than the first two, it is no less a powerful testimony of the divine origin of the Bible. The Bible"s authority is unlike any other book ever written. This authority and power are best seen in the way countless lives have been transformed by the supernatural power of God"s Word. Drug addicts have been cured by it, homosexuals set free by it, derelicts and deadbeats transformed by it, hardened criminals reformed by it, sinners rebuked by it, and hate turned to love by it. The Bible does possess a dynamic and transforming power that is only possible because it is truly God"s Word.

There are also external evidences that indicate the Bible is truly the Word of God. One is the historicity of the Bible. Because the Bible details historical events, its truthfulness and accuracy are subject to verification like any other historical document. Through both archaeological evidences and other writings, the historical accounts of the Bible have been proven time and time again to be accurate and true. In fact, all the archaeological and manuscript evidence supporting the Bible makes it the best-documented book from the ancient world. The fact that the Bible accurately and truthfully records historically verifiable events is a great indication of its truthfulness when dealing with religious subjects and doctrines and helps substantiate its claim to be the very Word of God.

Another external evidence that the Bible is truly God"s Word is the integrity of its human authors. As mentioned earlier, God used men from many walks of life to record His words. In studying the lives of these men, we find them to be honest and sincere. The fact that they were willing to die often excruciating deaths for what they believed testifies that these ordinary yet honest men truly believed God had spoken to them. The men who wrote the New Testament and many hundreds of other believers (1 Corinthians 15:6) knew the truth of their message because they had seen and spent time with Jesus Christ after He had risen from the dead. Seeing the risen Christ had a tremendous impact on them. They went from hiding in fear to being willing to die for the message God had revealed to them. Their lives and deaths testify to the fact that the Bible truly is God"s Word.

A final external evidence that the Bible is truly God"s Word is the indestructibility of the Bible. Because of its importance and its claim to be the very Word of God, the Bible has suffered more vicious attacks and attempts to destroy it than any other book in history. From early Roman Emperors like Diocletian, through communist dictators and on to modern-day atheists and agnostics, the Bible has withstood and outlasted all of its attackers and is still today the most widely published book in the world.

Throughout time, skeptics have regarded the Bible as mythological, but archeology has confirmed it as historical. Opponents have attacked its teaching as primitive and outdated, but its moral and legal concepts and teachings have had a positive influence on societies and cultures throughout the world. It continues to be attacked by pseudo-science, psychology, and political movements, yet it remains just as true and relevant today as it was when it was first written. It is a book that has transformed countless lives and cultures throughout the last 2000 years. No matter how its opponents try to attack, destroy, or discredit it, the Bible remains; its veracity and impact on lives is unmistakable. The accuracy which has been preserved despite every attempt to corrupt, attack, or destroy it is clear testimony to the fact that the Bible is truly God"s Word and is supernaturally protected by Him. It should not surprise us that, no matter how the Bible is attacked, it always comes out unchanged and unscathed. After all, Jesus said, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away" (Mark 13:31). After looking at the evidence, one can say without a doubt that, yes, the Bible is truly God"s Word.
