Debate formal debates are worthless exercises in how to create meaningless games for people with too much time on their hands. The debates are too short to give detailed arguments and are too easily manipulated by debaters relying on rules of debate to win their arguments more so than substantive argumentation or they rely on friends or fellow believers posting support which only goes to show who's got more friends on Debate which usually goes to those with the most ordinary beliefs, certainly it doesn't go to critical thinkers. Egos may get stroked on debate boards but as for establishing "winning" and "losing" arguments the Debate format excludes that as it goes to popularity contests instead.
