What defect of character do you think is the most common within the individual?

What common defect of character do you think is the harmful to the individual?

In my opinion it lies somewhere in satisfying the ego at the expense of others, but that is fairly broad.

Seriously? Cruelty as the most common and harmful? I guess that depends on where you draw the line between selfishness and cruelty.

Absorption in ego; not only a pursue ego gratification ahead of some other good, but the identification with ego as the self. This leads to most of the other ills of the world.

Selfishness, greed, cruelty especially to the defenseless and weak, support of animal testing tends to make a person pretty bad too.

Thinking selfishness is a flaw is a pretty big and common flaw, least around these parts.
It came to be at its height. It was commanded to command. It was a capital before its first stone was laid. It was a monument to the spirit of man.

Small amounts of selfishness are. You gotta balance in with the greater good.

And btw I was J/K about eating babies. Same goes for starting peta fires with Twilight books, although if I were to start peta fires, I probably would.

I gotta balance with a meaningless concept? There is no good on earth greater than "good for the self." To achieve good has no meaning except to achieve good with the self as the beneficiary.

Right; pride is essentially believing (falsely) that we can own anything ourselves. We cannot, it is ALL gift.

I thought greed would be. Personally I hate the idea of the "7 deadly sins" being bad, because in small amounts they are good and not bad, especially if you satisfy them the right way.

But Al Pacino said, "Vanity...Definately my favorite sin" in The Devil's Advocate, so it's gotta be true! jk

I guess (according to Milton or Dante?) they were referring to Vanity as being Satan's favorite sin because it was the source of his downfall.

As far as 7 deadly sins (wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony), I don't think that they are refereed to that way anymore. I think that there are 2 general types: venial & mortal sins. Mortal is the one you should stay away from. "Mortal sins are believed to destroy the life of grace and create the threat of eternal damnation unless either absolved through the sacrament of Penance or forgiven through perfect contrition on the part of the penitent."-Wiki

Yeah I can see that, but greed seems to be the largest one now, so it is prolly Satan. (and after watching that video I am now conviced Satan had a close relationship with W)

Yeah but people still say their oh so terrible. The satanic bible is good for pointing out that if you indulge in one you have to weigh the pros and cons of the choices and it wont really hurt anything. You want something you work and get it pretty basic example.

One of my favorite quotes because it is almost a universal that people can be manipulated by it, if done effectively.

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by Satanic Bible, as many have written many things in the name of Satan. That being said, anything with Satan as a positive figure, cannot possibly be good. In this case, I think I know why it was chosen.
