This has probably been done, but I'm too lazy to go through the post history and revive it. So here I go!

Does anyone here like "open air preachers"? Or would anyone at least defend their "career" choice?

Personally, I find most of them amusing but some can be just annoying or obnoxious. When they openly condemn me to Hell for wearing black... I want to hit them.

Opinions?

It seems like harassment. Having total strangers shout at you that you're a sinner? If they made a case for their idea, sure, but it doesn't seem right that they can insult you. Not that I think simply insulting someone should be a crime.

DAMN YOU. My threads always get attacked with YouTube references... and then I'm stuck watching videos like "YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX". They make me laugh, but they kill my threads.

Yes. Because then I get to use arguments that rip apart their preaching.

That's where I get stuck. If I were to be against them and try to stop their preaching, I'd be infringing on their rights. And I'm ALL FOR RIGHTS. But if I don't, I'm stuck listening to their condemnations every time I walk downtown. Ugh...

yes.

If they truly believe that people are going to be tortured for all eternity in hell.....

then any compassionate person should want to save others from that... and what they're doing might very well be because of their compassion.

However... I think most of'em are out there for other reasons.

I generally don't mind them, they have never singled me out. There was one who did some sort of shouting rap about how he did not wank off over porn anymore, he was a bit annoying,
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

It was pretty aggressive, but each to their own. Normally they just hand you leaflets (but then the Brits are a bit less confrontational). If they literally screamed in my face I would punch them and cite self-defense, well no actually I probably wouldn't.

I'm so tempted too... but I restrain myself. Ugh, I don't see how they're helping, you know? They're not real preachers. They're better ways to spread "God's Word". Harassment is not the ideal way! So WTF?

We don't have Sidewalk Preachers in Australia. I've literally never seen one.

However, I do remember being taken by a friends dad to this 'performance' once. As I was watching it, I thought "this show isn't very fun... something fishy is going on here...". At the end all these Christians came out and one latched onto me and started asking me if I'd been saved and whatnot, filling my face with Jesus.
I was young at the time and hadn't really formed any religious views (I suppose I could have been called a Wiccan, since that's what my mum was into and I had a vague interest at the time) and I don't even remember what I told him.

I would put that down as one of my defining 'religion' moments. I don't want to be accosted with religion. YOU AIN'T GOT NO FVCKING PANCAKE MIX!

LOL My first run in with religion was meeting my mom's Coven. She was a fvckin' scary wiccan. Hopefully your mom was cooler. But that sounds like an absolutely horrible show... poor kid.

I refer to the Christian God (the one described in the Bible; Yahweh) as the "bearded sky wizard". Consider it a term of endearment. I could call Him the bearded scuzbag arse hat.
