A bit of an exaggeration, but for the most part this is a true statement.

But that is the case anywhere in society, not just here on DDO. As the old adage, "Never discuss politics or religion with strangers" has always had its merits.

Ahh..but we fiercely debate and discuss religion (what you call "flame wares" because it IS a passionate subject. Well, at least for many. Usually it has been my experience that the religious folks have a tendency to get irate a bit quicker than do us Agnostics and Atheists, but not always.

For my money, I derive the lion's share of my pleasure here on DDO discussing religion and Theology. AS well as science--especially Evolution or the LUCA debate.

And is not that why most of us are here? LOL--for entertainment. Well, and maybe to learn something once in awhile.

It is like the old saying, "Too much agreement spoils a good chat." I agree with this. (see what I did there? LOL)

I wold much ratherr engage in a spirited debate with a religious fundamentalist than a boring old skeptical atheist. Oh....I too am a skeptic on most things, but also try to keep an open mind on many subjects that most atheists are equally negative about. This is witnessed by the fact that many of my former threads on things like Deism; Universal Creative Intelligent Forces; Theistic Evolution; the Paranormal; and Government Conspiracy Theories (some of which are true--like Project Swiss Watch) were met with heavy derision.

It's all good, mate!

Really? My experience has been just the opposite. It seems like the atheists and agnostics are the first to start getting nasty in religious discussions. You're the second person lately to say this, though. My brother-in-law, who is an atheist, told me the same thing, and I was taken aback then, too. I wonder if the difference in perception just has to do with which side you're on. I suppose if you're an atheist, then you notice antagonism toward you more than you notice the antagonism coming from your side and directed at Christians. And if you're a Christian, the same thing is true in reverse. Or maybe it just has to do with the people you associate with. I don't know.

And is not that why most of us are here? LOL--for entertainment.

Well, that is my primary reason for coming here, but sometimes the nastiness that goes on in this forum takes away from that. But to each his own, I guess. I'm sure somebody enjoys exchanging snarky diatribes or they wouldn't keep talking to each other.

WOW how ironic, I had pulled the definition from the urban dictionary. Born of God, eh. That makes his statement even funnier knowing the different BOG's

No, actually I really don't like the letter U. It is kinda mundane and the same whether uppercase or lowercase. Really a bit of a let down as letters go...

Mine too.

It seems like the atheists and agnostics are the first to start getting nasty in religious discussions.

It does seem that way. Often, even before anyone has replied a post as their posts often has the first insult built into the post title.

We can know. Go through the threads and see who first insulted, used ad homs, and or vulgarity. When pressed with such clear objective evidence, the atheists has 3 stand-bys.

1. Religious people deserve to be ridiculed and insulted.
2. It wasn't an insult if it was true.
3. Go into spittled-filled rant about some 6,000 year old "atrocity".

So on it goes, the atheist will insult the theist, rationalize the insult, go to another thread, and there claim the theist was the first to insult in the previous thread, rinse, and repeat.

There are other reasons, but most do it because like it.
