What are your thoughts on the Bible Code? Do you think it's impressive, not impressive, unexplainable, mystifying, a hoax, or just wishful thinking?
Ignoring problems doesn't make them go away.

My humble opinion: a hidden code within the Bible is not consistent with the idea of a God who wants you to understand his instructions. It is, however, consistent with the wishful thinking of people who want to feel special and would like to think that they have hidden information that's not accessible to others. Spend a few hours on conspiracy theory forums around the internet and you'll see hundreds of examples of that sort of person.

People might argue that God hid instructions for a handful of 21st-century believers in a 2,000-year-old-document that is the most widely read book in the world for some obscure purpose, but that's implausible because, (a) God should have much better ways to hide information, (b) God should have much better ways to deliver information, and (c) secret codes are cool when you're 12 years old reading cold-war-era spy thrillers, or when you're a Hollywood movie maker. They're not consistent with the kind of events and behaviors described throughout the Bible.

The Bible is full of symbolic names and messages that only God understands. Once he uses a saint to start testifying to his knowledge by writing and speaking words and stories about the future that he puts in his mind, these symbolic names and messages are understood in a whole different way than what is perceived by religious minded people.

How about nonsense.

The Bible Code is the title of a book by Michael Drosnin in which he claims that there is a code embedded in the Bible by Abraham's god (AG)

Drosnin once said, "When my critics find a message about the assassination of a prime minister encrypted in Moby-Dick, I'll believe them."

McKay promptly produced an ELS analysis of Moby-Dick predicting not only Indira Ghandi's assassination, but the assassinations of Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, and Yitzhak Rabin, as well as the death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Mathematician David Thomas did an ELS on Genesis and found the words "code" and "bogus" close together not once but 60 times. What are the odds of that happening?

Thomas also did an ELS analysis on Drosnin's Bible Code II: The Countdown (2002) and found the message "The Bible Code is a silly, dumb, fake, false, evil, nasty, dismal fraud and snake-oil hoax."* Does this mean that AG put in a code to reveal that there is no code?
