"Worldwide, more than eight-in-ten people identify with a religious group," says a new comprehensive demographic study of more than 230 countries and territories conducted by the Pew Research Center"s Forum on Religion & Public Life.

"There are 5.8 billion religiously affiliated adults and children around the globe, representing 84 percent of the 2010 world population of 6.9 billion," the analysis states.

Here"s the breakdown of "The Global Religious Landscape," based on an analysis of more than 2,500 censuses, surveys and population registers:

" 2.2 billion Christians (32 percent of the world"s population).
" 1.6 billion Muslims (23 percent).
" 1 billion Hindus (15 percent.
" 500 million Buddhists (7 percent).
" 400 million people (6 percent) practicing various folk or traditional religions, including African traditional religions, Chinese folk religions, American Indian religions and Australian aboriginal religions.

There are 14 million Jews, and an estimated 58 million people " slightly less than 1 percent of the global population " belong to other religions, including the Baha"i faith, Jainism, Sikhism, Shintoism, Taoism, Tenrikyo, Wicca and Zoroastrianism, "to mention just a few," the study says.

Yes. Religions are traditional in virtually all societies. In a pluralistic society, you are also 60-70% likely to inherit the faith of one of your parents, regardless of what faith that is -- while in a monistic society the stats can be far higher. This tells us that choosing faith is not so much a rational decision, as one of cultural indoctrination.

So we can conclude that traditional societies indoctrinating their young tend to produce more religion.

We saints know for sure how God created everything within His mind before He spoke everything into existence. That means we were all born in His thoughts before creation and the visible objects are formed from this creation as illusions, not something that is real, meaning something made of hard physical matter.

Please enlighten us as to exactly what parts of Christianity are being deleted by the government and how things are worse as a result?

MONTGOMERY, Alabama (CNN) -- Only one in five Americans approve of the federal court order under which workers removed the Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of Alabama's state judicial building Wednesday, according to a new poll.

The new CNN-USA Today-Gallup poll found 77 percent of the 1,009 Americans interviewed earlier this week disapproved of U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson's order to remove the monument.

Thompson ruled that Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore's placement of the 2.6-ton granite monument in the state building two years ago violated the U.S. Constitution's principle of separation of religion and government.

"It is a sad day in our country when the moral foundation of our law and the acknowledgment of God has to be hidden from public view to appease a federal judge," said Moore, suspended by the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission last week for refusing to obey Thompson's order.

Workers removed the monument about 9 a.m. (10 a.m. EDT), nearly a week after Thompson's deadline passed, and rolled it into a back room out of public view.

Outside the building, about 150 of Moore's supporters vowed to keep fighting to get the monument restored. Christian Defense Coalition director Pat Mahoney said supporters were "disappointed, but not discouraged."

"We don't view this as a defeat at all," Mahoney said. "We're still calling people to come to Montgomery to take a look at where the 10 Commandments once stood."

Moore's case has become a magnet for religious conservatives around the country. Organizers say protesters have arrived in Montgomery from as far away as Alaska.

"I believe that this is going to be a ripple effect across our nation -- at least that's my hope," said Phillip Nunn, who brought his family from Georgetown, Kentucky.

A federal judge in Mobile Wednesday dismissed a lawsuit by the Christian Defense Coalition seeking to keep the monument in place.

The 17-page ruling from U.S. District Judge William Steele did not address the merits of the complaint but said the proper venue for the case was Montgomery.

"If the court were to grant the plaintiffs the relief they seek and order the defendants not to remove the monument, chaos would ensue," Steele wrote.

This a begging the question fallacy. Even if the government is deleting Christianity (which would be a miracle) that doesn't mean our hardships are due to this. I would say society would be better without organized religion per say (i am spiritual but you don't need churches to have faith). Anyways, i would say our hardships are due to other things like money, mainly.

The collection of facts and statistics that you are about to read is highly controversial." A lot of people are going to be greatly upset by it." Why?" Because they don"t like to be confronted with the truth about America."

Image: U.S. Flag (Wiki Commons).
Most people tend to believe that we can "fix this country" by getting the right politicians into power or by implementing certain economic or social reforms." But the reality of the matter is that our problems go far deeper than that." A moral collapse is eating away at the foundations of our society like cancer." If it continues to go unchecked, it will inevitably destroy America." Unfortunately, fixing moral decay is far more difficult than switching out political parties, because it is in the hearts of hundreds of millions of individual Americans." And most people don"t want to hear anything about a "moral collapse", because most people like to think that the United States is setting a "good example" for the rest of the planet." But as you will see below, that is not the case at all.
And if we are honest with ourselves, we see the evidence of this moral collapse all around us every day." Just consider a few of the news stories that we have seen recently"

What would cause a high school kid to take two kitchen knives and go"on a stabbing rampage"through his school?
What would cause a topless woman to"ransack a McDonald"s in St. Petersburg, Florida?
What would cause two 18-year-old boys to beat a 30-year-old mentally-disabled man to death"with a baseball bat"just so they could get his XBox?
What would cause a new father to put his 6-week-old daughter"in a freezer"to keep her from crying?
A lot of people regard those kinds of stories as "isolated incidents", but as you will see below, they are actually representative of a much larger trend." As a society, we are decaying from the inside out, and we need to start facing the truth if we are ever going to get this turned around." The following are 100 facts about the moral collapse of America that are almost too crazy to believe"

"Worldwide, more than eight-in-ten people identify with a religious group," says a new comprehensive demographic study of more than 230 countries and territories conducted by the Pew Research Center"s Forum on Religion & Public Life.

Hey Doc, good to see you! I would be interested in your opinion on something. You obviously think--and are probly right--that most adults who are Believers were "indoctrinated" as kids. But some DO get raised atheist, or just with NO doctrine either way. They become Believers in God on their own, from some sort of experience or another. Something makes them Believers without being taught to be. So what percentage would you guess them to be. This is a tough guess I know. So let me ask you to break down your percentage guess, for OVERALL world wide believers in God, or Allah, or Vishnu. And then a percentage of American Christians, like me, that you think of all Believers found God later in life with no indoctrination.

My own opinion s that these groups are Growing, not declining. I would put them today at about 25% or so. one outta four.

And I know you dont agree with this last part, Doc, but I think part of this is because God is beginning to show himself more, Deliberate OT type signs.

Thanks, and God Bless!!

What's ironic is that the very same people wonder why the world is in such a mess, they put it there.

I can't speak for the rest of the world, but in the U.S., the more the government is deleting Christianity from our society the worse things keep getting.

So, the good old days of racism, slavery, segregation and lynching are preferred to you? Or, do you prefer the days when you could burn a witch on a nice Saturday afternoon and roast nuts over an open fire?

Please enlighten us as to exactly what parts of Christianity are being deleted by the government and how things are worse as a result?

Hi, Augie! That's true.

I've said before that there's no intrinsic benefit to nontheism, except its freedom from the conceited, ignorant and often corrupt claims of religious authority.

Being a nontheist won't make you less anxious, or more self-confident. It won't make death less scary or grief less grievous. It won't make you more compassionate or forgiving, won't give you more friends or a stronger sense of community. It won't make the world more wonderful or more beautiful, or give you a sense of purpose. It won't give you greater insight into morality or the human condition -- though it can remove dogmatic impediments from greater insights.

Participating in religion can do any of those things, except free you from its own dogma. However you don't need to participate in religion to do those things. So religion can be a path to developing a more examined and fulfilling life, but it comes at a cost, and the stronger its claims to theological authority, the higher the cost and (I believe) the fewer the genuine benefits.

The upshot then is that some people raised nontheistically -- especially those who might want to live a more examined life with more community participation -- find enough perceived benefits from religion to adopt it.

On the other hand, the way people are adopting religion is changing. The changes are complex, but identifying with a religion is much less likely to fill a church pew these days than once it did, and much less likely to subscribe to some fundamentlist claim of inerrant theology. In the developed world, the major religions themselves seem to be becoming secularised: less dogmatic, less traditional, more progressive and pluralistic with each generation. That's not true of the more conservative and fundamentalist sects (who seem aware of this trend, and terrified by it), but I think it's increasingly true of the mainstream.

Did you even read that article, here's the reason:

"it violates the state's constitutional ban against the use of public funds or property to benefit a religion."

From the link:

In other words, the article is an emotional rant.
