And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

The audacity of Christ to tell us to love...how dare he.

If you love god with your entire being what do you love your fellow man with?
If you reserve some of your being to love your fellow man then you are breaking the first commandment.
You cannot obey both commandments, sorry if that hurts your head as it must.

According to the parable in Matthew 25, the way we treat people is the way we treat God.

If you take the concept literally, there is no difference between the way we love/hate people and the way we love/ hate God.

Both commandments are impossible to follow. I know many theists, specifically Christians, from several countries and several denominations. Some of them I would characterize as devout believers but none of them would I characterize as in obedience of said commandments .

How would you call the action of issuing a pair of commandments which are humanly impossible to follow while simultaneously establishing the penalty of death and eternal torment for the disobedience?

We can if we understand that loving God, and loving our neighbor as ourselves, is the same act of love. That we love God BY loving ourselves and each other. And that by loving ourselves and each other, we ARE loving God.

This is the revelation that Jesus as Christ brought to the human experience 2000 years ago. And along with it came a promise: that if we would accept and live by this axiom, humanity would be healed and saved from itself.

I'm still hoping it will happen.

Do you see signs of it happening any time soon?

In particular, in close-knit Christian communities, do you see signs of it happening on a daily basis?

He was telling us that all is one. There is no separation from God. We exist in the God mind. Everything is connected.

I see it as a basis for understanding reality. To the degree that we are each willing to accept this as our reality, it does manifest the healing, as promised. Unfortunately, we humans are often not able to maintain a clear understanding of this, or maintain the courage necessary to actively live by it. And so we fail at it, daily.

And yet the reality and the promise, remains. And each time we can see it and do it, it does manifest as proclaimed.

I don't see this as a religious thing. There are many self-proclaimed Christians who have no understanding of this revelation at all, and who actively live in antipathy with it. I also know many non-Christians who understand this revelation innately, and live by it as best they can. So to me, the revelation is a reality, not a religion. We either recognize it and align ourselves with it, or we don't. From moment to moment.

Because you cannot accomplish or fulfill it with human nature. It"s not a part of man kind to do so. Hence one must have God"s nature to fulfill it. Since it is also said that God is love by another apostle, then God defines what love is, and how it's fulfilled. Men are not born into the world with the God"s nature, one must be born of God"s Spirit to have the potential for the fulfillment of God"s Commandments which requiers God's nature. One must understand that the Commandment is to His People or children not to those who are not His, or do not believe.

Then I should not love mercy, forgiveness, humility, patience, love your neighbor, do unto others as you would have them do unto you...(All Jesus' teachings). So what should I love? Hate, child molestation, pride, and unforgiveness? Sounds oh so wonderful. I must convert now!

To love someone with all your heart means "fully" and not half-heartedly.
When you say "I love my country men ", how is it possible to love everyone in your country? They are both expressions to convey depth and breath of your love.
