Another user here started a thread with a long, rambling post on Apollonius of Tyana. It piqued my interest to read more about him and dispel some of the misinformation presented. However, in reading the wikipedia article I was struck by the parallels between this Greek philosopher and Jesus (they co-existed at the start of the 1st century). Here is a list of those similarities:

Similarities shared by Apollonius and Jesus [23]
Birth miraculously announced by God
Religiously precocious as a child
Asserted to be a native speaker of Aramaic
Influenced by Plato/ reflected Platonism (Jesus)
[Renounced/ denounced (Jesus)] wealth
Followed abstinence and asceticism
Wore long hair and robes
Were unmarried and childless
Were anointed with oil
Went to Jerusalem
Spoke in [metaphors/ parables] (Jesus)
Saw and predicted the future
Performed miracles
Healed the sick
Cast out evil spirits/ Drove out demons (Jesus)
Raised the daughter of a [Roman official/ Jewish official (Jesus)] from the dead
Spoke as a "law-giver"
Was on a mission to bring [Greek culture/ Jewish culture (Jesus)] to [the "barbarians"/ the " nations" (Jesus)]
Believed to be "saviors" from heaven
Were accused of being a magician
Were accused of killing a boy
Condemned [by Roman emperor/ by Roman authorities (Jesus)]
Imprisoned [at Rome/ at Jerusalem (Jesus)]
Was assumed into heaven/ Ascended into heaven (Jesus)
Appeared posthumously to a detractor as a brilliant light
Had his image revered [in temples/ in churches (Jesus)]

He gathered a number of disciples around him, who became convinced that his teachings were divinely inspired, in no small part because he himself was divine. He proved it to them by doing many miracles, healing the sick, casting out demons, and raising the dead. But at the end of his life he roused opposition, and his enemies delivered him over to the Roman authorities for judgment. Still, after he left this world, he returned to meet his followers in order to convince them that he was not really dead but lived on in the heavenly realm. Later some of his followers wrote books about him.[17]

Who was Erhman referring to? If you guessed Jesus you would be wrong. It is a summary of the life of Apollonius of Tyana.

Interesting thing about Jesus is He was so powerful that the very Romans who mocked and crucified Him later became an empire dedicated to serving Him.

And tbe Romans were pagan believers. They finally found a pagan religion better than theirs and quickly adopted it so as not to be outdone.

Apollonius was a Greek Neo-Pythagorean, so I would hardly call him one of their own (Roman), even though, I guess, everyone was a Roman citizen within the Roman Empire. The point is that the story of Jesus does not seem to be original. Bits and pieces have been lifted from multiple sources and this ties in perfectly with the fact that no contemporary historian had ever heard of him. Whether the Romans over two centuries later made the connection between the Christian Jesus story and the Apollonius biography is debatable. The connection was eventually made but it wouldn't have been obvious given the state of knowledge and information spread at the time.

" The Council of Nicea took place in AD 325 by order of the Roman Emperor Caesar Flavius Constantine. Nicea was located in Asia Minor, east of Constantinople. Its the details that matter. As with all these cases theres glaring differences. Religolus or however its spelled is the perfect example of internet arguments manifested into attempted scholarship. Every single point made in that movie to make Jesus look like some authored copycat is absolute nonsense. Its why you dont see acholars debating it but rather wishful thinkers on the internet. The perfect example was when James white debated dan barker and when James went to quote dans own published work dan actually took issue with it and really just made himself look really bad. The arguments depend on a lack of modern knowledge on said "copied persons". They all literally count on someone not knowing the actual content and very important details.

It goes as follows:
Someone writes a story about me. Then thousands of years later a comparison is made between me and someone else with similarities. They point out that me and mystery person were both white, born in america, attended college, worked a job, have the same first name, liked smoking cigars, owned guns, loved a glass of reserve whiskey and played sports growing up.
Yea me and about a million other white americans.

See the bolded parallels. Anything supernatural in your list? No? Then hardly an appropriate comparison.

(And it wasn't thousands of years).

Alexander the Great was a Greek from Macedonia. Yet he occupies a place in Roman history.
The little they had on Jesus was so overwhelming that a Roman Emperor Constantine in 325AD made Christianity the state religion of Rome. He must have seen Jesus as the ultimate pagan God. Virgin birth, miracles, resurrection....who could ask for more, a compassionate pagan deity!!!

Bart Erhman wrote:

Even before he was born, it was known that he would be someone special. A supernatural being informed his mother the child she was to conceive would not be a mere mortal but would be divine. He was born miraculously, and he became an unusually precocious young man. As an adult he left home and went on an itinerant preaching ministry, urging his listeners to live, not for the material things of this world, but for what is spiritual.

Will the real Jesus please stand up?
Its the details that matter. As with all these cases theres glaring differences. Religolus or however its spelled is the perfect example of internet arguments manifested into attempted scholarship. Every single point made in that movie to make Jesus look like some authored copycat is absolute nonsense. Its why you dont see acholars debating it but rather wishful thinkers on the internet. The perfect example was when James white debated dan barker and when James went to quote dans own published work dan actually took issue with it and really just made himself look really bad. Was he also a carpenter? Did he throw money changers out of the temple? Did he heal the sick with an emphasis on going and sin no more? Did he cast out demons? Did demons acknowledge he was the son of God? Was he betrayed for silver? How many apostles did he have? What were his thoughts on the kingdom of heaven? Was he crucified after being whipped with 39 lashed, had a crown of thorns stuck to his head and marched down the street carrying a wooden beam? Was he humble? Did he also ride a donkey down the street even though he was a king? Did he rise again 3 days later and have women bear witness to an empty tomb? You know things like this. Care to share what his holy book is? Or why the roman empire didnt adopt him instead? This is where the embarassment will begin because I already know your not going to bother answering every single one and citing a source behind it because unfortunatley youv been getting quite lazy on here lately.

Interesting thing about Jesus is He was so powerful that the very Romans who mocked and crucified Him later became an empire dedicated to serving Him.

And tbe Romans were pagan believers. They finally found a pagan religion better than theirs and quickly adopted it so as not to be outdone.

And then the Mother of all cults arose by the hand of a bloodthirsty pedaphile who hated the "God of love" and invented the "God of hate and death" and gave him no name other than "the greatest of decievers" which is the Biblical name of Satan.

History sided with Islam and saw the final destruction of the remnants of the pagan Roman Empire and the rise of the Ottoman Empire and thus began the glorious era of Islam.

Islam is the seed of the slave(Ishmael), and not of the promise. Christians and Jews are of the free woman. Interestingly enough, just as the Bible said, Isaac's seed compile the free societies of Earth while Muslims refer to themselves as slaves, just as God declared it in Genesis.

Sarah offered Hagar to Abraham as a wife not a slave. Abraham on two occasions pimped his wife once to the Egyptian pharaoh and the other time to King Abimelech. Sarah was therefore a whore and of lower status than Hagar.

Not according to Genesis of the Jews, nor according to the New Testament of the Christians. Muhammed came up with his own version of many things, even the role of Ishmael on the altar. His entire "Revelation" was a 100% match with the warnings of the Satanic Antichrist false prophet that was to come. It told us step for step how tospot the religion of Satan.

1)Infallable prophet that denounces the deity of Christ and deceives many.

2)His followers bow to an image that fell from Jannah and speaks in the final days.

However, in reading the wikipedia article I was struck by the parallels between this Greek philosopher and Jesus (they co-existed at the start of the 1st century). Here is a list of those similarities:

Similarities shared by Apollonius and Jesus [23]
Birth miraculously announced by God
Religiously precocious as a child
Asserted to be a native speaker of Aramaic
Influenced by Plato/ reflected Platonism (Jesus)
[Renounced/ denounced (Jesus)] wealth
Followed abstinence and asceticism
Wore long hair and robes
Were unmarried and childless
Were anointed with oil
Went to Jerusalem
Spoke in [metaphors/ parables] (Jesus)
Saw and predicted the future
Performed miracles
Healed the sick
Cast out evil spirits/ Drove out demons (Jesus)
Raised the daughter of a [Roman official/ Jewish official (Jesus)] from the dead
Spoke as a "law-giver"
Was on a mission to bring [Greek culture/ Jewish culture (Jesus)] to [the "barbarians"/ the " nations" (Jesus)]

Gish gallop ignored. You have a comprehensive list of parallels. Why would I need to provide even more?

It goes as follows:
Someone writes a story about me. Then thousands of years later a comparison is made between me and someone else with similarities. Sossianus Hierocles argued in the 3rd century that the doctrines and the life of Apollonius were more valuable than those of Christ, a viewpoint reportedly held by both Voltaire and Charles Blount during the Age of Enlightenment.[18] In his 1909 book The Christ, John Remsburg postulated that the religion of Appolonius disappeared because the proper conditions for its development did not exist. Buddhism, Christianity and Islam thrived however, because the existing conditions were favorable.[19] In his 1949 book The Hero with a Thousand Faces, comparative mythology scholar Joseph Campbell lists both Apollonius and Jesus as examples of individuals who shared similar hero stories, along with Krishna, Buddha and others.[20] Similarly, Robert M. Price in his 2011 The Christ-Myth Theory and its Problems, notes that the ancients often compared Jesus with Apollonius and that they both fit the mythic hero archetype.[21]

3)His followers kill by beheading.

4)His followers declare war on Jews and Christians.

5)His followers look to a false messiah who will come, denouncethe deity of Christ, act as thoughhe himself is messiah, and seek to destroy Jews and Christians. He will rule the entire world under one religion.

6)It all comes from the seed of Ishmael.

Islam did not exist yet. Now that would be some improbable guesswork don't ya think?

Do you know why I'm so hard for you to deal with Hari? I know the Bible and the Quran. Thus, I always know you are commanded to lie, and easily able to discern the lie by knowing both books. Let's look.

You have yet to demonstrate any knowledge of either scriptures. All you got is YouTube trash and none are from any credible source.

Sarah gives Hagar to Abraham to be his wife.

Genesis 16:3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife.

Abraham pimps Sarah to Pharaoh and is rewarded with riches.

Genesis 12:15 When the officials of Pharaoh saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken into Pharaoh"s house. 16 And for her sake he dealt well with Abram; and he had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female slaves, female donkeys, and camels.

Abraham pimps Sarah to King Abimelech and is again rewarded with riches.
Genesis 20:2
Abraham introduced his wife, Sarah, by saying, "She is my sister." So King Abimelech of Gerar sent for Sarah and had her brought to him at his palace.
14 Then Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and male and female slaves, and gave them to Abraham,

Abraham was a man of God, what did he have to fear? He had no remorse taking the money offered for his wife's whoring services in both cases. The man was a pimp.

Explain to us what Satan is like hari. Is he a deceiver who seeks out death on anyone who will not follow him?

Satan has no power to kill unless that power is given by God.

Cannot tempt without God's Permission

Satan was unable to tempt Jesus without the permission of the Holy Spirit.
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil (Matthew 4:1).

He also could not tempt Job without God's permission.
And the LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person." So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD (Job 1:12).
4. Cannot Influence Nature Without God's Permission.

6. Cannot Kill Without God's Permission

Satan cannot take a human life without first getting God's permission.
The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, he is in your power; only spare his life" (Job 2:6).

The Bible does say that Satan has the power of death.
Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the Devil (Hebrews 2:14).

However this does not mean that he has the ultimate authority to cause people to die; only God has that authority.

7. Cannot Touch At All Without God's Permission

Satan cannot even touch a believer without the permission of God. Satan complained to the Lord about this.
Have you not put a fence around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land (Job 1:10).
God has placed a fence around each believer protecting them from the Devil.

Here is a list of those similarities:

Similarities shared by Apollonius and Jesus [23]
Birth miraculously announced by God
Religiously precocious as a child
Asserted to be a native speaker of Aramaic
Influenced by Plato/ reflected Platonism (Jesus)
[Renounced/ denounced (Jesus)] wealth
Followed abstinence and asceticism
Wore long hair and robes
Were unmarried and childless
Were anointed with oil
Went to Jerusalem
Spoke in [metaphors/ parables] (Jesus)
Saw and predicted the future
Performed miracles
Healed the sick
Cast out evil spirits/ Drove out demons (Jesus)
Raised the daughter of a [Roman official/ Jewish official (Jesus)] from the dead
Spoke as a "law-giver"
Was on a mission to bring [Greek culture/ Jewish culture (Jesus)] to [the "barbarians"/ the " nations" (Jesus)]
Believed to be "saviors" from heaven
Were accused of being a magician
Were accused of killing a boy
Condemned [by Roman emperor/ by Roman authorities (Jesus)]
Imprisoned [at Rome/ at Jerusalem (Jesus)]
Was assumed into heaven/ Ascended into heaven (Jesus)
Appeared posthumously to a detractor as a brilliant light
Had his image revered [in temples/ in churches (Jesus)]

As an adult he left home and went on an itinerant preaching ministry, urging his listeners to live, not for the material things of this world, but for what is spiritual.

Will the real Jesus please stand up?

And in the same book that you got that from it says Satan will come, be worshipped as God, his followers will bow to an image, and hisfollowers will have a great prophet who denies Jesus as the Son of God. This same group will look for another messiah who stands against the Christians and the Jews. And this man is literally Satan incarnate. And it says this group beheads people. It even says this group that serves Satan will attempt to change the laws, claim peace, and attempt to take over the world. It also says Ishmael's seed will inherant nothing and be violent until the end of the world. And if we still can't figure out who it is it tells us they are the slaves of their god. Is it not obvious what is happening here?

Off-topic

What because it embarassed the person who brought it up to know their sources are internet based arguments and not scholarly sources? Or the same embarassment dan barker felt debating an actual scholar on the exact same point?

Off-topic. The source I cited is wikipedia, an impartial encyclopedia.
Right because even college classes alllow for Wikipedia citations...

Like I said please demonstrate for us all the following:
The Jews in palestine were very familiar with apollonius. It would have need to probably be apart of their own culture or expected messiahship. Afterall paul turned to Jesus, would he have found apollonius blasphemous?
please demonstrate the teaching similarities. So what did apollonius have to say about divorce, the Jewish law, what age was apollonius baptized? Did he speak with abraham and elijah?

Gish gallop ignored. You have a comprehensive list of parallels. Why would I need to provide even more?

Gish gallop? If you can't even shows half of these were done by apollonius it's already game over. Address it. Don't run.

No but its that people are drawn to similarities and want to play pretend like they are the same. I can do the same thing with anything.

And yet you failed.
How so? Or will you also Dodge this too.

Think of a country in the 1940s that committed mass genocide, was technologically advanced, was at war, had a set of laws, gad a booming economy, influenced the world for years to come ideologically and technologically.
So who am I speaking of? The russians? The germans? The americans?
You cant distinguish anything until you start naming details. This is really a basic premise I find surprising you dont get.

Nothing supernatural in that list either. We are comparing people not countries. Another fail.

No your just doing comparisons in general. Your insinuating because any comparison can be made to anything else it's grounds for it being identical

(And it wasn't thousands of years).

Can you show anywhere in the history of scholarship it was suggested that Jesus was built from apollonius? If you cant the point remains the same, these internet based arguments could also pop up about me because it would rely on a lack of understanding of who I really am, what I really thought ect.

Try reading the original link I provided. Lol.

https://en.wikipedia.org...
https://en.wikipedia.org...
https://en.wikipedia.org...

These are all worthless links...but not worthless to further causing you problems. Apollonius held that God couldn't be influenced by prayers and sacrifices, had no wish to be worshipped by humans.
The only miracle listed is apollonius witnessing on the day emporer Domitian was murdered about midday...
Both of these details sound nothing like Jesus...

Price in his 2011 The Christ-Myth Theory and its Problems, notes that the ancients often compared Jesus with Apollonius and that they both fit the mythic hero archetype.

I'm curious, was it the illegality of Christianity and death sentence by the Roman government for being so that was super favorable to its growth?
I mean this is really a silly suggestion at best.
