Why are humans the most selfish and selfless creatures at the same time?

We are capable of the best kind of altruism, and the most depravity of any other creature on Earth. Why the disparity?

Duality, it exists in this world and us as individuals. It's a continual battle here in this realm.

Dualism, where you see great feats of love and light penetrating you have great feats of evil and darkness attempting to penetrate, it's just a part of these lower-level conscious dimensions. We deal with light and darkness, evil and good.

Are "evil" and "good" real things? Or are they just an individual's subjective label put onto different things?

Could be both, what do you think of murdering someone or serial killers, child trafficking and rapists? is that just a label or are their actions evil? Some things can be classified as what they are, others may be a bit more grey areas, but certainly evil actions and good actions exists no?

It seems to me that some things are evil. But I don't know if evil can exist outside human actions. If evil is a "thing" that is something that really exists. I suppose evil is in the intention of what a person does. They must know they are doing something evil, and feel guilty about it. At least I think they would.

Perhaps they do, and they like it, that's what makes it evil....some people developed a pattern to do evil, they've dwelt on it, contemplated it and perhaps lusted after it and the idea of committing it becomes an attraction, they have abandoned good intentions and love for bad intentions and evil, giving into the impulses they gratify themselves and wallow in it like a pig in dirt.
Don't forget when people give in to evil forces they are rewarded, temporally of course, that is the deception behind it.
But make no mistake, evils are not pinned down to human nature only, we have influences to deal with. either way there exists duality.

We're a species that cooperates for protection, child-raising and food-gathering, and competes for food, status and sex. Both behaviours protect and advance the species, yet our competitive behaviours can go to appallingly cruel and unjust extremes.

Also, we're not especially depraved creatures by mammalian standards. Mammals are capable of horrific cruelty. They crush infants, devour newborn, rape the vulnerable, slaughter their injured, gore, crush and maim rivals, brutalise the weak, torture their prey, drive off the old to starve. It's not just carnivores that do such things -- herbivores do it too.

It's a cruel world, and species have adopted cruel strategies to survive it. But mammals are capable of great kindness, compassion, courage and sacrifice too.

Adaptation is a fairytale.

Adaptation is real, it is what Jehovah designed into his creations in order to allow them to adapt as necessary to changing conditions.

Only a fool can deny adaptation because we see examples of it all around us in creation. It is the only realistic explanation for all the millions of variations on the relatively few kinds that Jehovah created according to the Genesis account.

It is evolution that is the fairy tale.

Darwin observed adaptation, but later so-called scientists have distorted it into something absolutely impossible, and called it evolution.

Jesus preached that his father was separate to and greater than him.

You teach a fictitious trinity.

Jesus
What does jesus have to do with the topic?

Ask me true false.
About what? I asked about the disparity between selfisness and selflessness. You said'jesus' . That makes no sense.

Jesus is why we are selfless. The devil is why we are selfish.
I am responsible for my own actions. Arent you?

Yup. But I ask a question that you never will.
Which is?

What would Jesus do?
B-)
Thats because i have the confidence to trust my own judgement.

Oh? When's the last time you gave me a nice compliment?

I apologized for calling you a liar. Is that compliment enough?

Ruv, here's the keys to the car and a happy birthday card.....bwhahahaha
It's a cruel world, and species have adopted cruel strategies to survive it. But mammals are capable of great kindness, compassion, courage and sacrifice too.

Do you think other animals feel guilty, or intentionally inflict pain and suffering?
Yes particularly to the latter.

We know some mammals are capable of compassion and deliberate, spontaneous altruism; some are capable of grief; some clearly have self-awareness. Many are capable of deliberate, planned cruelty. We know that dogs are capable of expressions we associate with shame or guilt, but it may correlate more with anticipating getting into trouble than remorse for the act that got them into trouble.

On the other hand, I've seen dogs look shameful or guilty for an unacceptable act they know about, which (so far) nobody else does. So anticipating a scolding based on their own knowledge is close enough in my books to what (say) a three year-old human might do. :)
