This is really a topic aimed at Muslims to give their opinion.

It seems to me that the Qur'an is trying to tell people that God is their leader, and that there was never supposed to be a successor to Mohammed. The idea is that Mohammed wasn't really the leader to begin with because God is King.

Thoughts?
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of the will of God. The hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth,

there is no such prophet successor to begin with. Quran and Prophet encouraged us to establish the leadership.

Would you mind describing what this leadership entails?
