Probably mostly fresh, the salt came later and is still being deposited.

Interestingly, I've only recently come across a talk by Hugh Ross, saying the Flood in Genesis was local, not global.

That's not what the OP is asking though.
This is your clumsy confession that you cannot answer one simple question regarding a central belief you profess to espouse.

Roger that.

Whether the Biblical flood was salt water or fresh is meaningless in a theological debate. Besides, the story is an obvious allegory aboutthe end of the world. But...you are not well versed in ttheology, thus you don't realise why that is.

It was 'flood water', ie water imbued with whatever qualities and proprerties it needed to fulflll God's purpose. The versatility of water in the hands of a deity was later exploited by Jesus who turned some of it into quite good wine.

The water that rained was probably fresh water. The other part of the water that came from the "fountains of great deep" may have been salt water. Reason why I think it is so is that we can find many salt deserts.

If that was the only issue, then vote moderation could be avoided more often, since a vote in which the voter does explain sufficiently how at least one point a debater made swung their vote, would be considered sufficient. -Airmax

Genesis specifically says that it was a worldwide flood that covered the tallest mountains. Its odd that one would claim it is only partially a metaphor. You would think the two choices Christians had was that it is either completely a metaphor or it is literal.

If the story were true, it would be saltwater. 96.5% of all the water on Earth is saltwater. When mixed together, the fresh water would become salt water. All the animals would have no water to drink and all the freshwater fish would die.

Of course, since Christians have no accountability to demonstrate the credibility of the story, they could just as reasonably say it was grape soda since their god can do anything.

I think you are onto something here KP, that dude also walked on the water and turned massive waves into a mill pond with just a sprinkle of grape oil.
That deity also had some other dude smack a rock with a stick, in the desert, and out came water.
There is no doubt that you have discovered one of the untold mysteries of that god.

And now try thinking about that and how the water could submerge the highest mountain in that local area. There would need to be something higher than the highest mountain actually surrounding that local area and once again even the lie told to support the original lie is less believable than the original lie.
But I do love how the apologists try so desperately to convince the rest of the bewildered.

It was 'flood water', ie water imbued with whatever qualities and proprerties it needed to fulflll God's purpose. The versatility of water in the hands of a deity was later exploited by Jesus who turned some of it into quite good wine.

He also parted the Red Sea, made rivers run red with blood and blocked the flow of the river Jordan and invented rainbows. When it comes to water tricks, YHWH has the lot.

Do you believe in a local or global flood?
