Fear of death created an imaginary afterlife, we can quite safely reject such nonsense.

Very interesting. The Christian and Islam views are the die-hard (excuse the pun) after-life, guilt-trip if you don't believe, faiths.
The Jewish and Buddhist are a bit more watered-down after-life promises although I like the Buddhist better.
In a way it is true...after death we will become dirt which will nourish a plant which will be eaten by a mother to be, then bingo, out pops another of our species. The circle of life really....I feel a song coming on..........Hakuna Matada...........

At least there is something after we die, either our body decomposed or our soul keep living in another dimension.

My view is that the notion of an afterlife is a con game operated by clergy for their own benefit. It sure keeps bottoms on pews and money in collection plates.

The perfect clergical con trick. "Do as we say and give us your money in this life, and we promise you heaven in the next" even though most of then know there is no next life.

A perfect con-trick. Plunder anxiety to create a need, pledge to fulfill it subject to conformity, obedience and submission, and insist that ignorance, falsehood and the utter absence of evidence are all tests of the rube's commitment to fulfilling a need they never originally had, at a cost that nobody of conscience, integrity and good will should ever pay.

There was a con man, an idiot who called himself Buddh.

The profound teaching you are impressed with, actually belongs to Sage Buddh who was born much earlier.

He belonged to Sanatan Dharm and was not an agnostic / atheist .

There is no concept of heaven or hell in Sanatan Dharm. Only Moksh (nirvana) and PunrJanm (rebirth).

Only a naive man will use the word 'buddhism' .

Buddh (roughly) means the enlightened one.

There have been numerous Buddhas in the past.

My view is spending eternity sitting on a cloud with a bunch or christians , Jesus seated up front. And we all take turns reading aND explaining scripture meanings. In hope of Jesus's approval. HELL.

I don't have a opinion on what heaven might be like but.

there is a very good poem by Molana which goes like this:

death of each person, oh son, has the same color as himself, and is friendly with friends and hostile with enemies. you, who are afraid of death and are escaping it, beware, are afraid of yourself. it's your ugly face not death (that you're escaping from), life is like a tree, and death is it's leaves (or fruit).

so, your afterlife, would have the same color as your life. if you've done well and have prepared for your eternal life, you'll have a bright and happy afterlife. if not, then it's going to be dark and ugly.

The afterlife relies entirely on the concept of souls, but since souls have never been shown to exist, there is no reason to consider the afterlife as valid.

It might be worth pointing our that the Buddhist/Hindu notion of the afterlife is that living again by reincarnation is a punishment not a reward. That probably made more sense in the past when life for most people consisted principally of backbreaking physical labour in fields with only bare survival to show for it.

The ultimate goal was not to reincarnate but to achieve the oblivion-like state of Nirvana, something atheists feel assured awaits them first time.

Postscript: valhalla might suit some people, but it would be a bit raucous for me. Outdoor types might like to go to a Happy Hunting Ground. Or you could become a ghost, I suppose. So many options....

My hope is that there is nothingness, no consciousness, no afterlife after death. It would be horrible if we had to live forever. I want my rest and my peace.

Sam Harris said of Ian Stevenson's reincarnation studies, "Either Stevenson is a victim of a truly elaborate fraud or something interesting is going on."

I have read Stevenson's studies. I have read the critiques and the critiques of the critiques. I did not see anything that soundly refuted Stevenson's conclusions.

I do not believe in reincarnation per se but I do not rule it out as a possibility.
