I have read and heard it said that being a libertarian, or simply subscribing to a libertarian ideology, is contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Specifically, it would be against a society that would be in line with Catholic Social Teaching.

Do other catholics find this to be true?

One notion I have, albeit kind of anecdotal for now, is that whenever "governments" of man are discussed in the Bible, it is dealt with as something to be avoided or merely tolerated. Is having a big government not a violation of the first commandment?

What do you guys think?
