That is probably because you are not a Canaanite! Odd seeming rules like the one mentioned and others such the one about not yoking a donkey and ox together and avoiding mixed cloths - were invented to prevent Israelites adopting the 'foreign' practices of their neighbours and hence maintain the distinctiveness and purity of Israelite identity and culture.

Presumably the Canaanites had a traditional dish cooked in just that fashion. By outlawing it, the Israelites underlined that they were Israelites, not Canaanites. The odd thing is that - according to many scholars - the Israelites were a sub-set of the Canaanites! I suppose it's a bit like the pride some Scottish people have about being Scottish rather than British.

As always, I'm only passing on fairly routine mainstream scholarship.

Oh puhleese, Is that why god made the rules, are you fukin' jokin'?

And god made the commandments with reference to the Canaanites the tribe that invented him.

Using any sort of apologetics is pathetic.

Keep you hair on! I'm just an atheist passing on the generally accepted historico-sociological reasons for some of the strange sounding rules in the text.

That could not be just a coincidence. That is definite proof that God exists.

Exactly, and not just any God, the christian God, and not just any christian God, but the anti gay, anti abortion, kind looks the other way on the rich rigging the economy God.
