fism = fpNH/ (fpNH) + H
What do people think about this? I'm doing a debate about the probability of us living in a simulated hypothesis and my opponent didn't use it but I looked it up and it seems interesting.

fp- is the fraction of all human civilizations that will reach a technological capability to program reality simulators.

N- is the average number of ancestor-simulations run by the civilizations mentioned by fp.

H- is the average number of individuals who have lived in a civilization before it was able to perform reality simulation.

fsim- is the fraction of all humans who live in virtual realities.

This idea is very old, it is central to the Hindu religion which does not talk about a man made simulation of course but a God (Brahman) made one.

There are two questions that should be asked :

1) Is there anyway to falsify this claim? Is there anything you could do which would show you are in a simulation? What does it mean if you have a hypothesis and it can never be refuted?

2) Lets assume that you know it is true (100% confidence) what would the result effect be as an influence as to how you would act?

I know. An unfalsifiable claim is about as scientific as creationism. It's just cool to think about.

No, he's not any kind of god. He's a philosopher, a human being. He explicitly stated that he is not a god.

You're wrong. That's not Buddha. That's Hotei (aka Budai).

I have been deceived my whole life!! Only now it is revealed to me the fat one is not Buddha!

But I don't want to change my sig to

I have the body of a Buddhist philosopher

Too bad it's Butai

So I think I will keep mine despite its nosenicalltivity.

How did we get from talking about Bostroms simulation hypothesis to Buddha being an overweight god?

This thread is the perfect example of extreme subject changing.

fp- is the fraction of all human civilizations that will reach a technological capability to program reality simulators.

N- is the average number of ancestor-simulations run by the civilizations mentioned by fp.

H- is the average number of individuals who have lived in a civilization before it was able to perform reality simulation.

fsim- is the fraction of all humans who live in virtual realities.

fp - a made up number which there is no way to intelligently estimate

N - another made up number which there is no way to intelligently estimate

H - another made up number which there is no way to intelligenty estimate

fsim - the results of mathematically combining three numbers which were made up. Therefore this number is made up.
