So emm mind putting up the evidence for this mega tsunami?

And yes, I think it would be possible, just that you'd have to start riding it much further out than you would for a normal wave.

Tsunami waves are not that high in open water - even the mega variety! Being able to surf on it would depend on the topography of the seabed off the coast you chose.

So, a volcanic island that has a sheer drop into the depths would be hopeless whereas a a long, sloping continental shelf would be ideal. So, Florida rather than Hawaii, in this peculiar scenario, would be the better location to surf!

Have you ever seen Point Break? If you haven't, I'll ruin the end. The ringleader of the group of robbers who wear president masks who are also surfers, goes to Australia for the 100 years storm and dies surfing it.

I don't know anything about surfing. Nothing.

I am interested in how such a "mega" tsunami would form.

That doesn't say what caused it...

A landslide triggered by an earthquake. Basically, part of a mountain slid into a bay, displacing so much water that a 500-meter-high mega-wave washed up the opposite shore. (A "mega-tsunami" is a wave higher than 100 meters)

The same thing happened at Spirit Lake on Mount St. Helens when the largest landslide in recorded history slammed into Spirit Lake, causing a tidal wave some 400 meters high in the lake.

Hard for me to believe how many people on this forum aren't used to the sight of the Twin Towers in New York because they were to young to have watched much news or movies from New York at the time ...
