CERN will start producing data to challenge the Standard model.

Cliff notes

- Smash protons into beryllium.
- creates mixture of protons, pions, & kaons.
- kaons are identified and measured so they can be followed as they decay.
- identify pions that decay from the kaons.(10 % decay)
- Has to run for 3 years to identify 100 kayon to pion decay events.
- Supersymmetry predicts other undiscovered particles are involved in this decay event. if the decay rate does not match what the Standard model predicts, it may infer Supersymmetry is barking up the right tree.

Sounds pretty darn boring to get the data, but a great experiment that will help identify the direction particle physics needs to be heading to or remaining in.

Boring?

As a computer science guy; the idea of the infrastructure and software required to deal with the millions of petabytes (that maybe wrong, I don't care to google it right at this time but it's a lot) gives me a nerdgasm.
