Anybody who claims to have found a flaw in a scientific theory should submit their findings to a journal, not a debating site. That way, if they really have made a breakthrough, people will take them seriously.

Thank you. Thank you very much. And I'm not being sarcastic either.

Another note

If you think you know of a flaw in a scientific theory, learn some science from a decent source before you go around flaunting your "discovery". It will spare you a lot of embarrassment.

Here here.

You mean "hear hear".

Also I don't see why a flaw in a scientific theory shouldn't be put on this site.

It's a way of peer-reviewing a hypothesis one might have about such and such a thing that doesn't fit in with an established theory.

This is an internet forum and we are not scientists, so your "peer-reviewing" isn't coming from a credible source. Besides, these "flaws" are never supported by hard evidence, and are usually rooted in a fundamental misunderstanding of the theory.

If only someone would listen to what you just said.

The only people that would benefit will probably ignore that unfortunately.

You make a lot of assertions, but provide no evidence that any of this is actually hapenning. Also have you considered that people who make these bad objections are just trolling?

But if you're a scientist, this is a horrendous place to discuss any proposed flaws.

Nonsense. There is a place for what jack212 has described. However, I take this as seriously as a skeptic would to to saying one must publish in a theological journal to show that religion has flaws. Furthermore, it simply furthers my point on an orthodoxy. If this extends to a ban on opinions and topics dissenting from the scientific consensus on DDO it will be pathetic. Very pathetic.

No, they are not trolling, and they are incapable of being embarrassed. The phrase describing the phenomenon is "dumb as dirt and proud of it."

Scientists all long for the chance to overthrow a scientific theory. That's Nobel Prize territory. It happens, e.g. the Big Bang, special and general relativity, quantum physics, and inflation theory. The deal is that one needs evidence for a scientific revolution, and not just "I don't believe it." or "It defies common sense."

Not true in all cases, and certainly not true in the case of Evolution. Nobody "longs for the chance to overthrow" their worldview.

Big leagues can be wrong. They have a problem admitting this; it seems partly borne out of the need to maintain the public's trust in science. In any case, one must swallow embrassment if one must learn.

Certainly. I would be foolhardy to try such. The comfort here is that ultimately the reality will be known.

Not really. There is great deal of controversy of things like the rate at which evolution occurs and other questions. I suppose it's fair to say that no one expects the whole theory of evolution to be overthrown, just as no one expected the whole theory of Newtonian mechanics to be overthrown. But if there is any inconsistent evidence, scientists are eager to explore it.

The Nobel Peace and Literature prizes have always been heavily influenced by political beliefs, sometimes like Obama's to the point of silliness. The science prizes are the real thing however.

Since about 40% of the scientists who accept Evolution are theists, with many christians being a part of that 40%, your claim is clearly false.

Yeah, thats why no one really cares about the nobel prize. No one cares about getting all that money. No one cares about the fame or reputation. Its why no one fights for trying to get the nobel prize, and no one has ever complained when they didnt. No one gets happy when they hear they are nominated, no one cares.

But if there is any inconsistent evidence, scientists are eager to explore it.

To my knowledge, Evolution is the only scientific theory in the history of science to be defended via litigation from a competing theory. (The case were ACLU prevented ID from being taught in public schools)

I'd say that's a bad strike against anyone claiming people "long to overthrow Evolution." If they won't even put Evolution up for competition, (and against a theory they claim to think sucks) what makes you think they will permit Evolution to be overthrown?

The Nobel Prize is meaningless. Obama got the Nobel Peace prize yet lied about bringing the soldiers home.

The Nobel Peace and Literature prizes have always been heavily influenced by political beliefs, sometimes like Obama's to the point of silliness. The science prizes are the real thing however.

How about teaching racism as an alternative science? We could put racist theories to school children on an equal footing with non-racist theories. Should we let Aryan supremacists have equal time, and let the children pick the one they fancy? Then there are astrology, healing with crystals and drums, and casting magic spells. We'll just let kids pick from all the theories presented to them on an equal footing. No, it's all nonsense.

Actually, "global warming crisis" taught in British schools is being opposed in the courts. The courts are the correct place to resolve such disputes. The question is whether what is being taught is established science, and creationism is so thoroughly discredited that it exists solely as a faith-based religious doctrine. Along with astrology and healing crystals, parents have the right to espouse it outside of schools, but not in schools. Creationism is purely an article of faith.

Not true in all cases, and certainly not true in the case of Evolution. Nobody "longs for the chance to overthrow" their worldview.

Because what is regarded a good scientific theory for academics, is decided by the scientific community. And the scientific community have overwhelmingly accepted evolution as the only theory for the diversification of species. The prime scientific bodies such as the AAAS,

It doesn't matter what the non-scientific community wants or thinks, it really does come down to scientific consensus. Furthermore in schools we only want to teach the principle and best supported science so they have a foundation for the more recent and therefore, less well-substantiated science in later years. ID, even if it were regarded as scientific, is at best a very poorly substantiated theory in scientific circles. Therefore needs to remain outside the school classrooms until it does gain a good level of substantiation and acceptance.

I don't think you or anybody else want what is not considered good, sound science by at least the authorities, or leading figures in the direct line of the field taught to those who are just beginning to learn the basic principles behind science.

Another example would be the 9/11 conspiracy theorists or holocaust denialists. There are real historians that will deny these, but it's far against the overwhelming consensus of the historic community and leading historic bodies involved. Therefore, should not be taught in the school classroom.
