Why don't gun manufacturers use different forms of gunpowder? We have been using the same blasting mixes since the late 1800's. There are tons of substances that can ignite bullets. Hell, I demand the US manufacture guns that fire using NOS. Do you know how awesome that would be?

Nitro and Chemical reactive's make one hell of an explosion.
How about NO elections?

Gun powder propellant charges are actually quite sophisticated. It is not just the mixture but the shape of each propellant pellet.

Gun powder has been used for so long because it is temperature, pressure, and shock stable. This makes it a very safe charge.

Cannon's are shot using gun powder. I imagine there is a lot more variety in pellets and mixture with cannon use.

Black powder also has some alternatives tot he traditional sulfur and charcoal mixture. http://www.chuckhawks.com...

The problem is that the gun and the ears and hands of the shooter need to be able to survive repeated gun shots. There may also be a problem with aerodynamics but I'm not sure.
