Hummm. I have my top 3:

1- Darwin
2- Newton
3- Einstein

But I have to give credit to Tesla, Anaximander and the Wright Brothers, for being somehow visionaries.

Indeed, I somehow thought you were speaking about the dead ones, lol. I like Stephen Hawking very much, and I had the pleasure to take a selfie with him this Summer :p I also like Dawkins for his "selfish gene" considerations.

Neil Degrasse Tyson

I have a long list, but the scientists like Tyson help stamp out scientific ignorance.

Definitely Nikola Tesla, Neill Degrass Tyson, and Kurt Godel.

Godel is a mathematician, but I think it counts.

Theodosius Dobzhansky, I think, is really under-appreciated for his contributions to evolutionary biology. He pretty much (although not single-handedly) started the modern synthesis, but Darwin ends up getting all the credit for evolution.

Thanks! B. F. Skinner was one of the fathers of behavioral psychology and Robert T. Bakker is a great paleontologist--he wrote Dinosaur Heresies.

I like Tyson a lot as well, and he is hilarious, and you're right when it comes to defending science from nonsense he is one of the best out there.

You mean Michael Faraday don't you?

You're probably thinking of his mentor, Sir Humphry Davy.

My son is a scientist, so he gets my vote, outside of family I think it's probably Einstein, with Tesla, and da Vinci close behind.
