Despite the great probability of the existence of a similar thread, I'll go ahead and ask anyway: what are your greatest fears? For me...

1. Water - bad experiences with a swimming instructor when I was younger.
2. Heights (though I'm trying to learn parkour to conquer this fear)
3. Spiders - SPIDERS, MAN. I F*CKING HATE SPIDERS.
4. Intellectual impotence
5. Intimacy (and that's not just sexual intimacy)

You've got some weird fears, Cody, though I suppose everyone does.

For myself, I'm afraid of heights, but only heights for which I don't have a solid support beneath me, like say being up a ladder. As for other fears... I'm not really sure. I'm obviously not "fearless," and like everyone I'm always afraid of uncertain situations and the general unknown, but that doesn't stop me from venturing into it. I'm also afraid of letting people down, but who isn't?

I wouldn't say that any of them are "weird", per se, but a fear of intimacy is probably fairly uncommon.

What do you mean by letting people down? Like, breaking your promises, or "I'm just not that into you"?

This one may seem strange, but my mom has this doll from when she was a child. It's a creepy looking thing and when it's dark I'm always afraid to be in the same room as it.

How strong is this fear exactly? If the question isn't too personal.

Breaking promises, not fulfilling duties, etc. I don't have the luxury of saying "I'm just not that into you."

Pretty damn strong. I don't know precisely when the phobia originated (since it's not been that way my entire life), but I do know that it covers basically every region of intimate human connection you could possibly imagine,

Flying insects that shoot venom out their ***.

Hurt like a ***** and quite out of proportion to the likelihood of them stinging. I've had burns in metal shop that were preferable. (A mild allergy might be the cause of this). I tend to jump away whenever I hear that familiar buzz.

Spiders bite me far more often but the swelling and sensation is less than a mosquito, or about a 100th the pain of a sting from a wasp, bee or hornet, and the dangerous ones in the US tend to be big enough that there's not much chance of getting bitten by one if you pay attention.

What makes you say that?

The fear that I'll do wrong, be irrational, and the such. For the only thing that has more control over what I experience besides my own self is the laws of reality, which would be pointless to fear because they are unchangeable and infallible. Where as I could screw things up at any moment.

Hm. That must throw up quite a few barriers in life. When exactly did it show up? What do you think causes it?

Porn is a horror flick. That stuff is disturbing. O.O I have seen porn once. Never again.

By the way, I used to be deathly afraid of water too. I was alone hiking in the wilderness and I fell into rapids where I almost drowned. I'm over it though.

Nice generalization for a sample of one. What genre?

I don't think making me jump is useful to your cause. If your sniper can't hit me standing still, the odds of me jumping into the bullet's path at the right moment are rather low.

No, it's more of a typical pious response, unless you have statistics.

I thought harmless flaws in politicians were supposed to be endearing if they were honest about them?

38.25% of females are afraid of porn as opposed to 0.01% of males.

Possibly, but seeing someone who's supposed to be powerful run away from a tiny bee or wasp is too funny to be endearing.

The fear is limited to my own person, actually. To see others engaging in intimate physical contact is far different than to engage in it myself; though, as I've explained, the fear isn't confined to a solely sexual context. Even in that context, though, it's strange, because I'm not a virgin; ergo, one would logically assume that I haven't any qualms with sexual contact. That lends an even greater air of mystery to my dilemma.
