According to a science teacher in my school there "3 types of mammals, one which are those liek duck-billed platypus, which lay eggs but have characteristics of mammals (E.g. hair, fed on milk, etc.), marsupials, and animals like us which have placentas."

Can anyone afford me more info. on this? I'm suddenly interested.

The third one is commonly called 'placental mammals'. The three sub classes are called Prototheria (Order Monotremes), Metatheria (7 sub classes of what used to be known as Marsupialia) and the last one is Eutheria (placental).
