I was wondering what science thinks of the concept of races and especially if different groups of people evolved differently because of genetic drift and other evolutionary pressures on isolated populations. Any quick resources on this issue?

My favorite books on this topic are The 10,000 Year Explosion and A Troublesome Inheritance.

The term "race" is an informal rank below subspecies, which is not formally recognized by biology. [https://en.wikipedia.org...]

That's just arbitrary.

The thing is that most scientists on this field would agree that there are such things as "ethnic groups" but not races.

Funny. They believe in ethnic groups but not race.

Just because biology doesn't formally recognize the classification of "race" does not mean that it is a hollow concept. I mean, biology doesn't even recognize the concept of dog breeds. They could if they wanted to.

Yes Dylan, it's just about having the will not about the actual science. Lol.

Yes there are races Dylan, but the concept is more sociological than scientific in the way that ordinary people understand it. This is because the intragroup differences are greater than the intergroup means' differences, and therefore the concept of race loses much biological sense: the term "population" is just as useful, so nobody has the need to duplicate it and even less with the negative connotation that the word "race" has acquired in modern times.
