Interesting. I suppose so, but overall trees decrease global warming (by reducing CO2) much more than they create. But still a really interesting post

I've downloaded the PDF to read later. It looks like an interesting read, though I'm guessing the implication of the study is not that we should stop planting trees (they are important for reasons other than global warming), but that we should rethink the way we're doing it. :) That was kind of hinted in the abstract, where the authors mentioned that replacing broadleaves with conifers increased temperature (though this isn't related to the greenhouse effect but to the albedo of leaves).
The thing is, I hate relativism. I hate relativism more than I hate everything else, excepting, maybe, fibreglass powerboats... What it overlooks, to put it briefly and crudely, is the fixed structure of human nature. - Jerry Fodor

Forest management predates recent ecological concerns and even today almost all commercial forestry is aimed at producing timber and newsprint. It is disppointing that forests managed to produce wood commercially are not better at soaking up CO2 than they are, but its perhaps not too surprising as that was not the objective when they were set up.

I'm sure that forests can be managed to be efficient CO2 sinks, but it might not be so easy to produce wood on an industrial scale and sink CO2 at the same time.

Geogeer,

Please accept this in the tone it is written. I thank you for, even with a bit of snark, the actual thoughtful post to very credible source material.

I will read it.
