The spherical Earth concept dates back to at least 6 century BC.

If the Earth were flat how could the measurements of Eratosthenes work out? The measurements and difference of shadows at the same time period is proof of a spherical Earth.

A person today can watch the sun set. Then rise in elevation and watch the sun set again. Incidentally this is why Dubai set a high rise floor as the delineation between sunset and sunrise for Muslim observances.

If the Earth were flat the appearance of a setting sun would not be effected by elevation. Even accounting for a decrease in distance due to rising closer to the sun, an inclined rise in elevation will still result in the sun's appearance above the horizon again. This is proof the Earth is spherical.

There is no drastic change in the radius of Sun or Moon as it processes across the sky. While Flat Earthers contend that things disappear at great distances, they neglect that while distance increases an objects size decreases proportionally.

Despite the Sun and Moon being a great distance away at sunset, their apparent size is often sighted as being "bigger" not smaller. The increased distance actually shrinks the moon by 1.2% not nearly the drastic proportional disappearance of an object at great distance.

Bedford Level experiment

https://en.wikipedia.org...

"At the point chosen for all the experiments the river is a slow-flowing drainage canal running in an uninterrupted straight line for a six-mile (9.7 km) stretch to the north-east of the village of Welney. The most famous of the observations, and the one that was taught in schools until photographs of the Earth from space became available,[2][3] involved a set of three poles fixed at equal height above water level along this length. As the surface of the water was assumed to be level, the discovery that the middle pole, when viewed carefully through a theodolite, was almost three feet (0.91 m) higher than the poles at each end was finally accepted as a new proof that the surface of the earth was indeed curved"
