It's unusual to talk much about science methods, practice and culture outside the Science forum, but at a request from a member in Religion, I wanted to map out what I perceive as the differences between religious (i.e. traditional culture) and scientific thought, and thought I'd link to that thread here for the interest of members who don't frequent Religion.

My reason for posting the thread there wasn't to confront or criticise Religion so much as to explain and illuminate a long-standing cultural conflict between what evidence, proof and knowledge are, and to see if we can explore ways to keep the conflict from getting acrimonious and unproductive.

It may be relevant to members interested in Science and Society, and the link is at: [http://www.debate.org...]

The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts. - Bertrand Russell
