Just taking a poll here on men and women. Men, do your girls like to watch porn to get in the mood? Girls, do you like to watch porn on your own or with your guy?

My wife thought it might be a good idea once. We never tried it though. I doubt it would do much for her.

It's funny, with regard to anything else of aesthetic interest, women always seem to excel compared to men. For example, my wife has to match my work cloths for me; I can't do it. But when it comes to turn-ons the visuals take a lower priority. No?

Men are far more visually sexually stimulated than women. If the porn industry were to survive only on women as customers it would probably die; whereas if you were to remove the women as customers it would still continue to grow.

Some do. I would venture a guess that, on average, they prefer porn much less then men.

I'm not very familiar with the research surrounding this topic, but I do remember a number of theories in support of the claim that porn helps martial relationships. For example, when one partner has a higher sex drive than the other, porn helps level the field; where (s)he might be tempted to cheat on his/her partner to gain sexual satisfaction, porn allows them to do so instead.

At the very least, there's enough room for discussion that the claim that porn helps relationships deserves to be considered and not disregarded as a joke.

No, it worsens it. I regard it as a joke because being turned on my porn does not necessarily mean that you get a better sex life with your partner. It's not about being turned on my something else. It's about being turned on by your spouse, for your spouse.

I never said that. I said there was reason to believe that porn can help relationships in which one partner has a higher sex drive than the other.

I find your use of the pronoun 'it' confusing - pronouns represent something that has been previously referred to in a conversation. Here, it isn't obvious what 'it' even means. What's wrong with being turned on by someone else, so long it happens in the context of a healthy relationship that won't be affected by watching porn?

Woo, a random link showing porn in a bad light. As though that somehow supports your case.

It would not turn me on at all to watch it with my significant other. Then again, I almost prefer going solo because it's less messy :/

I regard something having higher level of harm than benefit as harmful. Sure the feelings can be boosted - but not necessarily in the long-term.

"It" - marriage. Just because you are turned on doesn't mean that the effects of porn are more beneficial than harmful.

What do you think it does? Do you just dismiss these studies due to bias? Don't ignore when research is being done. I don't care what your views on porn are. I'm not here to prevent you from watching it. I am saying that it comes with harm for many people, and I think that in most cases, the long term effects are bad and should be taken rather seriously.

I haven't seen the studies, but I would guess that it depends on the couple, whether porn would strengthen or weaken their marriage/sex life. For me, it would weaken it. I'm too much of a prude :)

I used to have a friend(girl) who was really into porn. She told me she wanted to direct pornography.

I've dated girls on both sides of the fence when it comes to that.. Some that find it reprehensible, and some that partake of its fleshy cup.

Then there was this really sleazy place I played at once.. It was like um... a swingers club or something. It was almost like speakeasy, but I got paid to play there... Yeah, that whole place was just sex from top to bottom. Porn everywhere.. The things people were doing... I'm pretty sure some of the women were enjoying the porn.. Hell, some of them were probably MAKING porn. O.O

I just shrugged, laughed, and played some sexy music.

I don't personally feel the need to watch porn while having sex, but if I was with someone who wanted to do that thing, I'd say, eh, whateva.

Cake? Sure, it splits couples and makes it harder for them to share love. We have many studies on that, as opposed to porn where we have no studies speaking of its negative impacts on marriage at all.

No, it was not entirely obvious to me. Cake brings immediate pleasure to some people and can have long term consequences, but it does not have the same consequences as porn. To be honest, I can rarely tell if Mirza is being sarcastic or not because in my opinion he is very reasonable about some issues and very unreasonable about others.

I do not think that a law can prevent people from accessing sexual content on the web. Moral condemnation is enough.

But, should there be a ban, for the sake of argument - then I think your comparison does not hold water. Pornography is easily defined, whereas "cake" comes in too many shapes and forms. A cake can be healthy. A cake can come with chocolate, but no added sugar. There are forms too many to make it easy for people to simply tell what is a cake, and what are its effects on the health.

It is like with the fast food example. Should we ban fast food? Te problem is that it is not possible. Even though it is harmful, the thing is that any food can turn into fast food. Buy potatoes, oil, mix that with vegetables, and you got healthy food. Buy potatoes, oil -> fry the potatoes, add some salt, and you got fast food. A ban is impossible.

On the other hand, you have a woman/man, naked, having intercourse, and that is easily classified as pornography. A ban is much easier, studies on its effects are much easier to carry out, and so on. But being against pornography doesn't mean I think it should be banned anytime, anywhere. I loathe it, but it doesn't help banning it where we live.
