Since I have an insatiable need to defend myself when insulted no matter who it is, I'm sorry Freedo, but I'm gonna post this.

Today on facebook I got upset when one of my friends posted a political status regarding the Boston bombings today. I live across from the Boston Common and saw the chaos and heard the bombs going off down the street. Even though I agreed with what he said and acknowledged that and apologized later, I continued to be criticized and told that I was spouting emotional dribble for saying that this wasn't the time to post things like that. I feel very angry that people would call the fact that I didn't want to see that kind of stuff when bombs when off around me "emotional dribble." I understand why they would think that because people often do post emotional statuses when they don't actually feel moved. But when this stuff actually happens down the street from you is it really emotional dribble? Is it not conceited to assume you know someone well enough to say that?

I can only imagine what it was like to be so close to such a horrendous event. I honestly dont think it was at all out of place to post it, just a way of coping with what happened

I actually read that myself and responded to you with "Thank you." I'm sure that implies that I understand why something like that would make someone upset.

"I continued to be criticized and told that I was spouting emotional dribble for saying that this wasn't the time to post things like that."

This I missed. And I find that to be extremely insensitive, not to mention flat-out stupid.

We are human beings who feel emotions. When something as life-threatening and traumatic as bombings are ongoing in your local area, people you know are possibly in imminent danger, and it seems that someone removed from the situation is using that event as some sort of pawn in a political debate, that is incredibly insulting and would make any person with sense very angry.

Whoever said you were "spouting emotional dribble" sounds like they were being thoughtless and insensitive. There is nothing wrong with prioritizing the needs of individuals who are living through a violent and traumatic situation, and, in my opinion, a compassionate person would do so willingly without throwing a rude, hissy fit about being able to say things which upset people.

Emotional dribble is when you are trying to prove a point based on emotions alone, completely overlooking logic ( considering they work in the opposite direction). Sensitivity is a human trait, usually something that guides us through different situations in life, something that forms the basis of social interactions.

One of the defining trait of pseudo intellectuals is trying to fuse the two.

There is nothing wrong with being emotional about a bomb blast right outside your window. There is a time and place forge everything, and one of the foremost characterstic of an intellectual is recognising that.

Seriously, ignore.

Whoever said that is acting in a manner that's just nasty and irrational to the point where it elicits a sense of visceral revulsion in me. You have bombs going off in your city. Some of the people mangled and killed by the attacks may be friends or relatives of yours. The other person is trivializing a tragedy to score cheap political points, and then has the gall to insult you when you protest? Despicable.

I just read part of it. I think it's pretty stupid that they can't understand or dont care how the proximity of the event emotionally (and physically in Rogues case) causes the individual to put it higher in their mind than other bombings they neither see nor hear about, on people in foreign countries. Yeah the state might be a stupid means for identification, but people have been so indoctrinated since a young age that we naturally feel more kinship towards our countrymen instead of more emotionally distant people. Whether they intellectually like it or not, its not going to be the same emotionally to most people especially someone who actually witnessed it.

He's interesting though. I do enjoy how he doesn't obey social customs and is unconcerned with others feelings. He also doesn't do the whole passive-aggressive game and just goes full on aggressive.

I mean, it's common sense. I'm going to care more about an earthquake or a bombing or any other disaster in my own city than one in another country for the simple fact that my safety and the safety of people I know is at stake.

It's really annoying when people act like emotions are the debil.

Yeah, there's nothing funny about people being hurt or dying.

There was a similar thread regarding 9/11 jokes a little while ago... and if you felt empathy at all for people when such things happened jokes about their dying just isn't going to be funny.

Sensitivity and emotional dribble are two sides of the illogical coin.

You're an idiot.

There is no ethics, there are no Goals, without Feelings, emotions, or Sensitivity..

If you want to be Purely logical there's no reason to do anything (much less speak), so why don't you STFU ;)
