Facebook has been integrated into our lives in very profound ways.
The network they provide us should be used in more efficient ways.
For example; we should urge the developers of FB to demise of a way to make an amber alert. Users can have the option to receive the alerts or not.
Users in certain locations according to their profile, IP, or GPS would receive these alerts as they originate. This would transfer information more thorough and faster than ever to specific communities involved.

With the integration of smartphones and FB, using technology in this way would be invaluable to our society and its children.

That's a great idea. Will you contact Facebook or your police department about it?

I plan to, once I have a little more feedback from people.

This is genius and should definitely happen. Facebook would be all over this; they are always desperate for positive publicity.

Brilliant idea. Just be sure that when you do, the alert goes to the notifications tab, not the "other" folder.

It's a relatively unknown thing, but most smarphones have the built-in ability to give you various types of "alerts", from severe weather alerts to AMBER alerts.

And Facebook users are generally quick to click on the share when there's a missing child post, thus disseminating it widely.

I also suspect that users would complain if it was on by default, and if it was off by default it wouldn't get turned on by many users.

It's already possible to set yourself up to get AMBER alerts, through all the major social media sites:

http://www.missingkids.com...
https://www.facebook.com...

But none of those are actual objections to the concept of it being a built-in Facebook feature.

Non-FB user here...

Wouldn't this just be one more annoying thing to loathe FB for alerting us about?
