I personally had a really hard time watching this video. While I know it was intended as a joke, I don't things like this are funny, nor should they be looked at as funny. Also the excuse he continuously makes of it being okay because it is a prank, doesn't make the actions any less real. If you listen to the comebacks he uses, they are genuine stereotypes used displaying his view of the race.

So my question is, do you think YouTube should allow videos like this? Of course we have freedom of speech laws, which automatically put people on edge when it comes to these type of issues. But if you feel freedom of speech is an issue, maybe we can discuss deeper into why you think that law should not apply to things like this, or what modifications it can have.

Title was supposed to say YouTube "policies".

My apologies on the spelling.

Anyone who thinks that the video is even remotely offensive should be exiled from society. What the hell? I watched the one where they do the same to Jews and I laughed all the way through.

Also, it's fake and completely acted. Missed that?

I said at the time that I thought everything in the vid was staged, and I still do. I think everyone in the vid is an actor and nearly everything said is scripted.

"So my question is, do you think YouTube should allow videos like this? Of course we have freedom of speech laws, which automatically put people on edge when it comes to these type of issues."

Freedom of speech laws don't apply to a private company, so the question and the statement don't follow. Anyone who believes a company should allow everything because of freedom of speech is naive or doesn't understand the law. I recall Helen Thomas (former white house reported) being fired for comments some thought were offensive. Some claimed her "freedom of speech" was being violated, though it couldn't possibly apply to the circumstance. That the first amendment exists doesn't mean any media should be entirely unrestricted or not hold their employees to some standard.

Youtube is free to allow what it wants, if the question is whether it should be more restricted in what it allows that will garner a different response than asking whether we should have greater restrictions on the first amendment. I don't believe you are implying the later, but youtube is what it is, and is a fairly permissive enterprise. Questionable content seems to go with the territory.

"But if you feel freedom of speech is an issue, maybe we can discuss deeper into why you think that law should not apply to things like this, or what modifications it can have."

The law doesn't apply to things like this so it's not an issue that makes sense relative to it.

I guess you are asking either of the following:

A) Should youtube have greater restrictions on potentially offensive material.
B) Should the first amendment have greater restrictions on potentially offensive speech.

The answer to B is no in all cases and as far as I'm concerned it's not an issue worth discussing anymore.

The answer to A is actually more complicated because youtube does already restrict its content. How much it restricts its content is up to the company.

On a personal note, I found the anti-Jewish version of this prank to be hilarious. This one not as much because I'm not too fond of racist humor.

Dude, Massive pointed out in the same thread that it was from a movie. We know it's staged.

Racism is funny. I can not tell you how many black, Asian, white, whatever friends of mine love to make fun of their ethnicity for the sake of a good joke.

The freedom of speech is an indisputable freedom that should stop at nothing. Whether staged or not, you don't limit this freedom most of all.

The title of this thread still makes sense despite the error ;)

YouTube are notorious for flagging and removing videos that are offensive. Unless those videos make them a lot of money. Then they give them a spotlight and partnership.

I think YouTube should go die in a fire.

They only get flagged if the users flag them.

Don't blame YouTube, blame the user who flagged it. One of YouTube's big sponsor (Machinima, and more specifically Inside Gaming) had one of their videos removed since one user flagged it as inappropriate (it was a penis mod for Skyrim).

Also there's no way a big channel like Machinima would suffer with a few flagging attempts and the powers that be know that. The same policy harms individual vloggers though.

I've just been super pro-YouTbe lately, since my last debate was about the Google+ change (my opponent forfeited), and now I am in another one which has pretty much gone dead, since the debate was phrased as "the harms outweigh the benefits" and the term "harm" was never defined. Pro kept asserting inconveniences, and all I kept saying was that those were just inconveniences and not harms.

Who'd a thought you would need to define the term "harm". Seemed pretty self-explanatory to me.

Do you remember when YouTube had a 5 star rating system?

Also I don't know why people would say the new YT is causing harm, it's a superflous thing to say.

I did note the context, but there is no need to try and argue your point in the debate outside the debate. You could have said that you were debating, but you didn't need to argue about inconveniences.
