Why is the United Nations telling other countries what to do and telling people how to live their lives?

I will link a previous question on Yahoo! Answers about the UN convention on the rights of the child.
http://answers.yahoo.com...
The answer basically said that countries can set their own age of majority. Then why did the UN asking Cuba to raise their age of majority to 18? In a report, they asked Cuba to raise their marriage age, which is currently 14 for girls and 16 for boys, because " they were entering the adult world too soon and were being deprived of the safeguards accorded to children."

If they want to enter the adult world "too soon," that should be their decision. Why is the United Nations telling other people how to live their lives?

Key word in this whole thing... "asked". That's all the United Nations can do at this point in time is ask you to do something and enact slightly coercive methods if you don't.

They aren't forcing anyone to do anything. And Cuba has more issues to think about than just their Age of Majority...
The wise have eyes in their heads, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realizethat the same fate overtakes them both.
Then I said to myself,
"The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?"
I said to myself, "This too is meaningless."
For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered;
the days have already come when both have been forgotten.
Like the fool, the wise too must die!
