It's not too necessary to go beyond that.

Interesting you bring this up as I was just arguing about something similar with a vegan. ;)

One universal of, uncorrupted, human nature is finding Bacon tasty :)

Tabula Rasa:
Humans choose to either be good or bad; you are a good or bad person based upon how your past choices.
"We are half-hearted creatures,
fooling about with drink and sex and
ambition when infinite joy is offered us,
like an ignorant child who wants to go on
making mud pies in a slum because he
cannot imagine what is meant by the offer
of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily
pleased."—C.S. Lewis, "The Weight of Glory"

think

That is the essential distinguishing characteristic in the nature of humans. That and choosing whether to think and what to think about. The rest can be read under the entry "nature of shaved apes."

I think that we are constant hypocrites, and i don't mean that horribly so. Most people generally would like to help their fellow man - truly, and yet most people have contempt for most other people. We want the respect of our fellow man but cannot tolerate any honest criticism...there are loads of interesting paradoxes about our nature.

Yea, pork products. It's the gelatin that contains pork by-products.

Why is pork bad but not beef?

I never fully understood why some foods are considered bad and others not.
Vegitarianism is the only one that makes sense because it has ethical reasons behind it. The others seem arbitrary.

Pretty much the same reason Jews can't eat pork if you know anything about that.

Mainly because it's considered unclean which is understandable since pork is more prone to parasites and such. Besides, pigs often eat their own sh*t.

Cows are gassy and pollute the earth with their CO2 emmissions. Why aren't those prohibited?

Or what about fish?

They're all highly prone to defilements.
