When I was younger, I always wanted to be a police officer. I thought that they protected people. "I want to be a police officer so I can help other people," I wrote in third grade.

You see, there were bullies at my school and I knew then that the best thing I could do in life is to stop the bullies from terrorizing others.

Soon enough, however, I realized that the police aren't there to protect people from bullies. No. Far from it, in fact. They ARE the bullies.

Far too many cops abuse their power, yes. Like there still hasn't been justice done for the Polish immigrant who was tasered to death in the Vancouver airport a few years ago... They even even bother to get a translator or anything, considering the guy couldn't speak English. Anyways, the cops responsible should be put on trial for second degree murder or manslaughter.

Totally agree.

Just in case I get into some BS with FREEDO again about how he's NOT a narcissist.

So... what's there to destroy evil inside of and above the constitutional government?

Criminal law in the American judicial system should be immediately abolished and replaced exclusively by civil torts.

I just keep seeing these videos where cops completely abuse their power consistently and take advantage of people.

There is no need for four cops to jump on one guy, pin him down, and begin to beat him with their bludgers. It's completely unecessary. I've seen other vids of cops breaking up college protests that were completely constitutional.

Disagree.

Some abuse their power, but most don't. It's silly to make a blanket claim that all police officers are criminals.

I'm obviously not saying that all cops are criminals. That would be stupid.

Can you prove that most don't abuse their power? I didn't think so.

This is one of the most blatant fallacies of demanding negative proof I have ever seen.

Not cool. I know your dad is a cop and it's nothing to be ashamed of. You don't get to pick your relatives. Heck, my dad "owns" large swaths of virgin land, violently withholding them from the market.

Don't care. You come into this conversation pointing out an OBVIOUS fact that the statement cannot apply to all cops. There was no point of even mentioning that; it is understood. The fact is, we don't have to speak specifically about certain cops. We can just speak about the general ideas, preconceived notions, and actions that we have either experienced or learned about cops.

Oh. I didn't know his dad was a cop. Wonder what it would be like if/when he finds you drinking under age or smoking weed.

What's virgin land?

I don't mind if you talk about talking about feelings about certain topics, but once you start making claims, you need to back up the claims with something other than feelings. This was the topic:

If you're going to argue in the affirmative, you're going to have to use statistics to back up your claims.

Some cops abuse their power. Some anarchists are a-holes who want to murder people. Some socialists are also eugenicists. Some South Africans are racist. Some DDOians are idiots.

"Some" be the key word in all of this.

In general, I find most cops do their job within the bounds they're supposed to. I doubt that "most" abuse their power, at least not in the ways that manifest in these circumstances (violence, etc.). If, in all honesty, a cop uses his position to, say, get ahead in line at a Tim Horton's store, I'm not going to cry "ABUSEEEE!", though I might be a little ticked off. Same if the CEO of a major company did the same thing.

The cops I've met, I've tried to annoy, in all honesty. They never do anything except look at me like I'm an idiot (which I am). I've had cops help me get home when I was younger; had cops, without being asked, help out with a protest a group I was involved in was planning; I've had cops reprimand me for stupid things I've done, yet never did I hear any hint of "HARBLE GARBLE TAZE", etc.

I mean, does anyone actually think that any other person with just a hint of authority would act any differently than a cop? It's not as if suddenly in anarchistland, the power and authority of a gun, mob or generally beefed-up dude disappears. Only idiots think this.

He acquired it by inheritance. His mother bought it decades ago when the land was cheap. It is now worth a small fortune and he is speculating that the value will increase even more and is therefore keeping the land off the market. All this while others are living in trailer parks and slums and there is all this land available. It is truly sickening.

I see.

You make it seem as if these trailer trash would actually be able to afford living on this land if it were put on the market.

It is truly sickening.

His idea is that the trailer park people would plow the land, and it would therefore be their land. Like squatting.

If he were to sell it it would merely go to some rich stock broker, or lawyer, yes. but I was not referring the market as in the cash nexus but in the more broad sense of being removed from being hoarded.

I guess "blood for oil" is just a good business investment as well.

Actually, it's sickening that you believe the needs of the trailer-parkers place some kind of claim on your father's right to the land he's inherited. Obviously, it isn't morally praiseworthy that he inherited it, but it also isn't morally blameworthy just because he didn't go out and plow it himself.
